Hey, I'm new here and I would love to know if anyone else in the forums has a problem with emotional eating. I'm having real problems with it currently and it's having a severely negative effect on my self-esteem and my ability to otherwise cope with a plethora of troubles which regualarly present themselves day to day. Has anyone else conquered this problem? Thank you for your help...

I'm an emotional non-eater. I've conquered it by become an emotional exerciser. I feel stress, I hit the track and I stay there until I can be normal, whatever that means.-------------- Anni ******* Hard work must have killed somebody |

Hello!
I, too, am an emotional eater. Within the last year, I have gained 15-20 pounds and it makes me feel awful. I am not nearly as confident, and don't want people looking at me. I hope to get over this problem during the summer, enforce healthy eating habits into my lifetsyle, and reach my weight loss goals. I am here if you need me. |

I think we all are more and less.
I tend to eat when I'm bored.......... :( Something else that I've finally realized about diet and training is that you'll always be 100% alone. Of course other people can help and motivate you, but if you REALLY want to succeed then you'll need to believe in yourself. Only YOU can change things and decide what body you want to have. -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. www.nme-pro.com |

I agree, you can certainly use(in the nicest possible sense) other people to help motivate yourself but if you RELY on others or use other people's lack of support as an excuse you won't succeed.

Anni---Is it bad that I now have a visual of you as this female version of Forrest Gummp?.....:laugh:
Cutthecord, I have had my bouts with emotional eating and my doctor told me that "comfort" meals were just that...anytime you put an upper jab on your insulin levels, (like eating a bag of chips or a meal when you are not really hungry) your brain lets loose of that glorious substance that calms and soothes you. So, in a sort-of way, you are actually self-medicating with food. Not to step on your toes and this is purely my opinion, but if you suffer badly from this type of feasting, and find no relief from it on your own, you should talk to your doctor about it as you may very well have underlying anxiety problem. Best to you, Julienne ============ Quoting from anni313: I'm an emotional non-eater. I've conquered it by become an emotional exerciser. LMAO Dlfy that's not really the image I was hoping to project, but we'll go with it for today. I've been told that I'm a little obsessive, but it was by someone who is a little compulsive (Michael), so I don't know if that counts.-------------- Anni ******* Hard work must have killed somebody |

Well, I'm going to try this again as when I finished my previous post it logged me out and I have to retype!
Welcome, cutthecord, and they are right, you must do this for yourself, find out the "whys" of your emotional eating and decide to face them and change them. In the meantime, there is wonderful, supportive people here that have been very helpful in my overeating, binging, overweight ways, so know you are not alone in your desires and dreams to combat your difficulties, you are just alone in your own battle to find out what you must do to attain goals that will work for you and the motivation must come from within! That said, I would like to mention something about endorphins! Endorphins are are friends! They are a natural hormone that with exercise increases our happy feelings! When our endorphin levels are low, we get moody, depressed, anxious, and start reaching for fatty foods that can give us some of the same satisfaction of higher endorphin levels as when we exercise. (Stess works against us by producing enzymes that lower our level of endorphins, also) The difference is obvious - we can eat or we can exercise often to increase these endorphins which when plentiful can give us a happy-go-lucky feeling, a euphoria so to speak. Instead of turning to fatty foods, which are destructive to our physical needs, exercise will release the positive endorphin hormones into our bodies - which are a natural pain medication of sorts. Study has shown that by exercising you can increase your mood enhancing endrophin levels by 77% and that swimming and exercising to music are the best ways to release these hormones and feel better! I know that is part of my difficulty and exercise has been helping. Exercise also helps me have something to look forward to daily as I know I am accomplishing something more than feeding my face! LOL! Good luck to you! Listen to your body and learn to treat it properly and it will respond better to your needs! -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL HAVE A GREAT DAY! |

Hey, you are not a pig because you eat!!! You need to eat, darlin', I am so sorry that there are people in this world that seem to have nothing better to do than put pain in our lives, but as my signature says, MISERY IS OPTIONAL, so you just hold your head high and you believe what your signature says, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL and don't forget it, you are so every bit worth being happy!! Don't let people control you like that, you take control and be happy! You are so important to those that love you and look - now you have TWO more to love you and to love! Hugs.... -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL HAVE A GREAT DAY! |
