Hi everyone,
I'm new here, going into my second week of weight loss and toning program. I hope to lose 10 pounds by Christmas, and 40 pounds overall by the end of Summer (although I think I can do more than that, I want to be realistic in my goal-setting). I would love to have someone to share ups-and downs with..either someone in the same boat, someone who has been there, or someone that has some good advice and encouragement! I am excited and looking to make a lifestyle change and begin to LOVE exercize like I used to!!!

Hi amanda!
Welcome to freetrainers! There are a lot of very smart people around here and most are eager to put their 2 cents in.
That being said,...
I'm one of the ones who started off very heavy and out of shape, and have worked my way down. I'm by no means a "guru", but am a trainer with some words of advice for you.
If you don't hit your goal of 10 lbs by Christmas, don't get discouraged. Healthy weight loss is usually around only 1-2 lbs a week. It took a while to gain the extra weight, it'll take a while to lose it.
A healthy diet is absolutely paramount to permanent weight loss. You need to figure out how many calories to take in during the day and go from there. Just google "metabolic rate calculator" and you should be able to figure this out if you already haven't done so. Start off by making cuts in your diet where you won't really miss them(i.e. lower calorie mayo, potato chips, and coffee creamers.) The one that helped me was switching off to lite frappuccinos at Starbucks, saved 200 calories right off the bat.
Do NOT eat too few calories, this harms you more than it helps.
Take before and after photos. Measure your progress more in inches than pounds.
Don't kill yourself with your new program. Going all out in the beginning can burn you out very quickly.
Always ask questions! Knowledge is the ultimate power in fitness.
I hope this helps!
