I'm interested in a supplement that could boost my energy before going to the gym after a long day at work. I drink a small cup of black coffee sometimes, but the caffeine sometimes interferes with my sleep, so I have been trying to ween off of it. I'm not interested in caffeine pills, obviously, and not something that derives a quick burst of energy from simple carbs like a spoon of sugar or glass of juice. Something natural and something that works.

Eat a small snack on the way, like a good quality energy bar.
They work for me when I'm on the bike trails.

Food as Ivan mentioned is by far the best way. Add to that a can of Lance Armstrongs FRS energy drink, and you should see a bit of a boost. Uses only 38 mg. caffine in an 11 ounce can.

I like chocamine powder. It's in the same class of drugs as caffeine but it's more mild and it has a hint of bitter chocolate taste....
b-complex vitamins can give u a little boost...
a good meal couple hours before the workout will be great also...

I find that L-Lysine ( i think thats how its spelt) is great for an energy boost if i havnt had enough sleep.
It says its meant for cold soles but it boosts your immunity:love: Its an amino acid as well.
