I'm having a hard time with the push ups in my routine. My uppper body is weak. I found an exercise ball, laying around my basement! Can I change my routine a bit and do my pushups on the ball instead? Is it as effective? I found using it helps me with my squats as well. Am I cheating??

No, the ball is fine. Doing pushups off of it is good. Use it for your abs too!

No that's a great idea!! You'll be using all the other muscles to stabilize your body as well!

Good idea Sandy, keep going!! (o;

Its also great for the glutes and back of the thighs. Try doing Bridg-ins. My wife started doing those, and gives a nice look!

One of the great things with the ball is the fact you can increase or decrease the "weight" the further out you get from the ball. The further up your body the ball is the less of your weight your supporting. Another version is the Girl push ups. on bended knee, on a cushion or knee pads, this lowers the weight supported by your upper body too, but can be uncomfortable on the knee.

huh? can't you explain that further? Where EXACTLY should the ball be when doing push ups?

Lay on the ball roll untill your hands touch the floor, the farther down your legs the ball is the more body weight you are pushing and the other way closer to your waist reduces the weight you are pushing. And for sit-ups and crunches lay on your back lift your legs into a chair position roll the ball under your legs and you are ready to start. good luck

Hi Carivan:

I know this is an old thread but what exactly are the Bridg-ins? I just recently got an exercise ball....and for the next week will have to be using it instead of going to gym, hubby is out of town for business so have 2 kiddies I have to take care..the gym has a nursery but 6 yr old would be responsible for 20 month old.....might go once or twice and check in on them, but not a great situation, so will be doing home exercises....till he gets back..Thanks for your help. Jamie
