Not knowing anything about asthma, here is my uneducated advice. #1 Ask your doctor what you could do. #2 Find something that doesn't trigger your asthma...maybe walking on a treadmill indoors. Keep your puffer handy, if you need it, and start out slow. Any exercise is good for you both mentally and physically. Slowly work your way up to more intensity by walking longer, faster or on an incline. Try a few different things to see what you can do without causing an attack. I have seen people at my gym with their puffers handy. I would think that some form of mild exercise would do you more good than harm, but ask your Dr. first!!!
-------------- Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.

Excersize induced asmtha AKA being out of shape will go away on it's own. I too once had "excersize induced asthma" now I'm good for running miles at a time. Just take it easy in the beginning, and if need be use an inhaler.

I stay away from swimming ...the clorine triggers my asthma.
I did find that with continued exercise, my asthma deminished.
Make sure you treat it daily(beclovent, advair), even if you feel good that day and take a puff of ventolin/bricanyl before you work out.
