Hey members,

I'm on university break for roughly another two months. I want to maximise that time and get a good base for me to build on once I'm back at Uni.

Right now I've got a barbell, dumbells, a bench, an exercise bike and the will power to do it. I'm a guy with fast metabolism and I've been skinny all my life. Basically I've found loads of conflicting advice on websites and in magazines on several things so to those that really know what they're talking about, please give me a little advice on the following:

Whats a good diet ratio for gaining muscle? 50% protein, 30% fats, 20% carbs is what has been suggested.

How many different exercises per muscle group should I do?

How many reps should I be doing of each exercise?

How long should I rest between starting a new set?

How long should I rest between each exercise? (For example, I just finished 4 sets of exercise X. How long do I rest before starting exercise y?)

Thanks in advance. I may post more questions here if I get some helpful responses.

Addendum:

I know its a hard one but generally speaking what kind of gains should I be expecting, as a man with a high metabolism, over this 2 month period and when will I start to see an increase in muscle mass?

A high metabolism just means that you need to eat more. If you are not gaining weight than you are not eating enough plain and simple.

If you want a good base than I would read up on programs such as Bill Star's 5x5
http://geocities.com/elitemadcow1/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

or Riptoes starting strength 3x3. If done correctly, I guarantee you will gain some size and strength.

Results depend on the person. Everyone is different. However, putting muscle is long and hard process, so don't expect to get huge in 8 weeks. If you put on 5lb of solid muscle in 8 weeks that would be exceptional progress.

you need a heck of a lot more carbs.
