This is a continution of the extremely long thread under "the best way for bicep mass"

Argument is whether slowing of metabolism or poor eating habits is the reason for people getting fatter as they get older. Thats basically the gist i'm sure menace will clarify that:surprised:

well go ahead and weigh in on the subject if you care to.........

Um ok here are a few: overeating, thyroid problems, other medical problems, being on certain medications, genes, lack of ability to exercise, depression, those are just off the top of my head. Being obese is not just casued by someone eating to much.

Didn't read the first thread, but it is a fact that if people do not train they lose muscle mass as they age and therefore their metabolism slows, leading to weight gain.

metabolism yes does slow, but all I said its the decision to keep eating and what to eat thats causes You to gain weight in later years.
I'm sorry, peple will probbly pound me for this one, but genetics.....alot of people use that excuse, and very few peopel actually have a "fat gene"

There are other factors of obestity I agree. But I wasn't talking about the people with medical problems, however I would like to know the percentage of people who have an "excuse" to be over weight and just the over eaters.

I believe that your body lowwers the metabolism naturally as you get older. Sure pros and atheles are going to have faster ones than joe schmoe at the water cooler.

Well, here's one. I gained 60lbs due to a birth control shot. I was exersizing, and trying to eat healthy but gained 5lbs EVERY 3 months without failure, no matter what I did. Only since I stopped taking the shot have I stopped gaining weight, and am actually seeing some improvement from my workouts.

yeah i believe that people with medical problems are not really the factors we were talking about. Basically it was why bodybuilders are able to get so big when there in their 30's or why poeple in general get bigger as they get older is it mainly from a slowing of thier metabolism or their lack of diet and a good a exercise program. The more muscle you have the faster your metabolism is correct? so then wouldn't a bodybuilder at age 30 have just a fast metabolism as say a 25 year old or younger?

mutt there's nothing to believe....it's a proven fact...metabolism lowers as one gets older...simple...i don't know why they are arguing with us over this point...

most people don't take this into consideration....and their brains ...namely amygdala doesn't adjust telling them to cosume less calories due to decreased metabolism...so they get progressively fatter...this doesn't even take their fitness level into consideration

this is why bodybuilders find it easier to gain muscles in their 30s...granted they have to do more cardio and dieting to prepare for contests(assuming no steroids)

I am not arguing that metabolism slows as i age i know that...I;m not really arguing really just trying to understand a little more. I'm not convinced that the reason bodybuilders get bigger in their 30's is due to a slower metabolism nor is it a reason for obesity.

No it is proven fact that most male bodybuilders peak in their 30's. This is due to muscle maturity. Plain and simple is that your muscles get better with age..hence the reason that most older weight lifters need not spend as much time in the gym and get good results.

well, the lower your metabolism, "the more calories you consumme", with this i mean you burn a lot less fat that you normally do.
so, more calories not burn, more "food" for your muscles.

if you don´t train, then i think you will store energy as fat. but if you are training, all that energy is supposed to go to muscles.

see what i am trying to say?
i am not sure but it is the more logical explanation i can think about.

since I need 250-300g protein a day, that to me be almost 100g prtein a meal, I think alot of it would go to waste, since your body can only metabloize so much at a time. Basicly be pissing and crapping it away

I don't think there is actual evidence of how much protein your body and breakdown at one time. Some people like to throw numbers out there but there is no definite answer. how many meal a day do you eat andrew? I get about 300g of protein a day which usually works out to be a little less or equal to 50g. of protein per meal.

hopefully you're not pissing away the protein andrew...cuz then the kidneys are shot...
