I've tried some fat burners in the past like hydroxycut, but only for a few weeks. I quit mainly because of the expense and didn't see any real results because of this. So who here has taken these and have they worked for you? I know ephedra has now been banned in the U.S. and I wouldn't take something that questionable in the first place, but what about the non-ephedra fat burners? Is it more the psychological effect that they have or are they for real?

cafenervosa, I would recommend you to do a search on Fitbuddy first about the main fat burners...
I've personally used fat burners, and they have given me pretty nice results... Sure, almost everybody will tell you that diet and exercise are the best fat burners, and I totally agree with them... if you don't have your diet, your cardio and your weight training correctly, you won't see much results, but if you do and if you combine them with a fat burner you could get nice results.... My own personal experience? I would recommend Xenadrine EFX, just because I also tried Hydroxicut and ThermoDynamx and they didn´t have as much effect as I got with the first one... Again, this is a very polemic issue, the choice is yours Hope this helps |

Burrocfh, I'm surprised that worked for you and congrats. Nobody I've ever heard from *self included* has had any luck from the EFX. Now, the old ephedra-containing Xenadrine worked some, but not without some side effects for me; I took one bottle and haven't touched ephedra since.
If you find those not working, cafenervosa, the clue is in your name :laugh: I believe that CLA helps with weight management (and as Ron will tell you, it's basically only good to use in a gaining cycle, so that you can gain muscle w/o as much fat--it's not a fat-shredder, rather it's more of a fat-blocker). In addition, some of the magazines have come back to the old faithful, and I've never left her side: caffeine. You can safely take up to 800mg per day. I'm not affraid to pop a 200mg vivarin before going into the gym, and the results are certain; fat burning continues after your workout above and beyond what it normally would. HHMMM, interesting info on the cafine.
I've been drinking coffee since I was 15 and (unfortunately) have become additcted to it. However, I only drink about 1-3 cups a day and I stick to de-caf beverages after noon. I work an a pretty screwy schedule (3am-noon 3-4 days a week and then 3pm-mid on weekends) so being able to keep a consistent sleep schedule has kind of kept me from feeling any positive effects of cafine.....other than giving me something to look foreward to when I wake up in the morning!! Would consuming more cafine than what I'm taking now be harmful in the long run? |

1 cup averages about 200mg. I drink it constantly or take it in some form. I'm not an expert on the health risks but I've read some on it and I lean towards the concept that it's safe, as long as h20 intake remains high (caffiene dehydrates).-------------- --There are no versions of the truth.-- Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic Park II |

I've been taking the Xenadrine for the last 3 weeks. What I notice mostly is that it gives me more energy and curbs my appetite, almost too much. I have trouble eating 5-6 times a day normally, so this makes it even harder for me to remember to EAT. I would say if either of those things will help you then it might be for you. I had good effects from Lean-system 7, and dymetradine extreme (which had ephedra in it). But I was also on a precontest diet and doing cardio twice a day...so which was it?
Caffiene is a good pre-workout supplement. Creatine has been shown to help preserve lean mass and aide in fat loss. Green tea is metabolic booster. New studies come out all the time and companies rush to add the ingredients to their formulas - some have some good research backing them up, others are just hype. The main thing fat loss will boil down to is calories in bei g less than calories out. I have a question... My body is very sensitive to caffiene. Very. I took three Thermo Burst the other morning because my husband takes them and thought it would be good. One mile and a half later, I thought I was going to die. My body quit functioning for about 35 minutes. I know, I am dumb for not checking the label, but I was not aware that all the herbal "extracts" and such were caffine. Is there a supplement that I can take that won't make my body freak out?

Depends on what you need the suppliments for and your definition of freak out.
oh, and all of the herbal extracts (and such) are not caffeine. Not sure it is a good idea to take the maximum dosage the first time anyway. That is just begging your body to "freak out" |
