Fat Free Cheese

2004/08/18, 09:19 PM
I decided at the supermarket that I'd like some cheese singles for this week, so I bought a package of Smart Beat fat free non-dairy cheese slices. I eat just about anything, but they are probably the worst things I've ever tasted, and I'm considering throwing them out. Is there another brand that is better?

LOL :laugh::laugh: When I saw the heading, my immediate reaction, even before reading the post was Yuch!!! Needless to say I haven't discovered a brand that is any better and I gave up trying after my first experience with the stuff.

You could just paint Soybeans orange yourself and eat those. Are they allowed to call something cheese without having any dairy in it? That is just wrong.

Just buy the light ones. Anyway, thats processed crap and it kills us. Go all the way on a cheat day and have a good blue cheese and red wine!

I would think that the processing in those single slices would be way more detrimental to your health than say, eating a real slice of cheese. I used to buy Kraft Singles, but started realizing that they didn't really even taste like cheese, so now I buy Tillamook presliced cheese. I would rather have the extra fat than all the horrible chemicals!

Can't agree more CristalBelle, as a matter of fact, the grocers don't even have to refrigerate the processed stuff. Isn't that odd, when real cheese definately needs to be cold.

Actually, mzakal, there are some great low fat cheeses out there, but go to the "real cheese counter" and you will have a variety of them.

Um, nobody is suggesting that Velveeta is a bad thing, are they? I find that disturbing...

The stuff in the spray can is ok as long as you spray it in your mouth and not onto a cracker first.

Thank God, spray cheese but no cracker is okay. I worry, you know, about where the insanity stops. Velveeta and spray cheese are like sacred, like M&M's.

woah. i haven't posted here for a long time.

anyway, i'm a fan of the cheese.

jarlsburg light is a pretty decent swiss. i think around 40 cal a slice and pretty low fat too. i get it at trader joe's, but it's near the deli section of the grocery store too.

if you grill fat free cheese it turns into orange rubber.

I've only eaten fat free dairy products for the last 3 years. They taste okay to me! I prefer the grated Kraft in Chicken Enchiladas...

i have no clue what a shrinky dink is, it sounds like a disease where the reproductive organs get smaller.

Try Cabot 75% light Cheddar Cheese. Also, try Laughing Cow Cheese Light for crackers or in a wrap or sandwhich. Also try Feta Fat Free Cheese it's kinda of salty, but the flavor is really strong. Also, I guess it's okay to eat cheese, even the non-fat ones...try the very strong flavored ones that are good so you won't need as much to enjoy the flavor. If you have a trader joe's around, there's a lot of good finds there.
