Creatine makes you put on more water (that's why you have to drink that much while taking it).
Creatine can also give you more energy and make your muscles recover faster WHICH can help you build bigger muscles quicker. Nothing to do with fat.

Yup...water weight, not fat weight. Jnellie, you're using plain old creatine monohydrate powder or a creatine "transport" like Cell-Tech? The reason for my question is that most creatine transport products contain a a fair amount of sugar to spike your insulin. Theoretically, spiking insulin levels deliver creatine into the muscles more efficiently, while achieving positive nitrogen balance at the same time.
If you take plain old white powder, take it with grape juice (or water). Gives you that similar insulin spike.

I use apple juice. Is grape juice really that much better?

It's the GI (glycemic index) factor. Grape juice works the best. Try your search on this...I seem to recall a member posting a GI table or stats on most of the juices.
