First, you add up each component that you have eaten for the day (or a meal). So, for example, if your total intake yesterday was:
100g - protein 500g - carbs 30g - fats
To find the percentage for protein, just add 100+500+30=630, then take your protein (100g) and divide into 630 (100/630=.16 or 16%). Do the rest to find out the percentages for carbs and fats. When you add up all of these percentages, they should always add up to 100%.

Check out fitday.com, you can enter your foods for the day, and it will give you percentages, and tons of other info.

============ Quoting from Dilan:
How do you find out what percentage of fats, carbs and protein you are eating????
============= Keep in mind that each gram of carbs = 4 cal, each gram of protein= 4 cal and each gram of fat= 9 cal. Next you take the total amount of grams per nutrient and multiply it by the number of cals for that nutrient and divide that number by the total amount of cals. So, for example if a food contains 5 grams of protein and is 100 cals per serving you multiply 5x4 and then divide by 100. In this case 20% of the cals are from protein.

All that works for me.....except alchohol. Been dieting and exercising now since April 1. Stayed away from wine and drinks cause I couldn't afford empty calories on my 1200 per day routine. Went on vacation last week and had some drinks. For instance,,I was told that 4oz of red wine has about 100 calories. Yet it has 0 protein and fat and only 4 gms of carbs. Sooo,,,I'm assumming there's a 4th element here,,,alchohol grms. How do we find out how many and how many calories per gram????

Welcome to FT rene.
True fitness emergencies are quite rare. Please do not yell at us. We can read and understand your question just fine without you typing in all caps. If you are in fact having an actual life-threatening fitness emergency, sign off the computer, and call 9-1-1.
The calculation you are looking for is 1g carb=4 calories.
