You can enter competitions anywhere, they won't be pro because you have to earn your card first. A 550 squat is good by any standard but at your weight you may not win, but competing is fun. Do yourself a favor and get an actual poundage on your deadlift and squat...big difference between squating 535 and 550. Then you know where you stand as far as competitions go. Most non-pro competitions don't do a weight category so 550 could be a good weight to win. Your deadlift is good, but to compete and win, its gotta be over 500. I dunno, its different from competition to competition, but this is what I experienced. As far as certification to personal train, do a Google search. There are so many org's. Being a physical therapy major will make the personal training test cake.
Again, your poundage is really good, some guys would kill to do that much weight, but at your size ya gotta get stronger. You're a big boy and young with alot of years to go. The only thing that can stop you from a 600lb squat is injury...god forbid.

Gotcha...so then grab somebody and make them spot you whether they like it or not. LOL That does suck because you can't go too heavy without a spot.

well to be honest with u i don't trust people that go to my gym, the time i go is when the skranny guys in there( no offense) but if i got a quater ton on my back i want a guy that knows what he is doing, besides about 2/3 the population at my gym can't do squats them selves lol............still my other question was......when do i get pro status on the web sight?

LOL...I really don't take offense to you saying "scrawny", were you implying that about me? LOL j/k. I know what you mean about schmucks who don't know what they are doing and pretend to know...I trust no one in my gym except for the trainers on duty who will spot me. Oh, your question...pro status is now called paradigm status which is achieved at, I believe 250 posts.

There are many things to look at when considering entering a powerlifting comp. Here are a just few to begin with:

1. What weight class are you considering? 220, 242, etc. Look into each federation that you’re considering and research the top 5 lifters in each class and see how you fit it with their totals.
2. Each federation has different view on drugs. Are you planning on competing drug free or not? Make sure that you get into the right division. Also, if you’re planning on staying drug-free, make sure that you get a copy (of whatever federation you’re looking into) of their banned-substance list. They vary depend on the sanctioning body.
3. By the same token, each federation has different allowances for equipment. Are you planning on “raw,” up to 2-ply, unlimited, etc. Make sure you get into the right one.
4. Different feds have different requirements for their judges. Some are sloppy, some are damn near Nazi-like. Make sure you find out which is which.
5. Are you planning on competing in all 3 lifts, or just one? Some federations will have divisions for each individual lift, or all three.
6. 99.99999999 % of the time, your comp lift will be nowhere near your gym lift – prepare for that and get use to it. It is a totally different environment. I knew a lifter who once said “Your comp lift is how much you can lift on that particular day, with those particular judges, on that particular equipment, with that particular suit, during that particular event. It is NOT your best.”

As far as a spotter goes, a few things:
Get a regular training partner. Training solo for a comp is very difficult. Having someone who is with you day in and day out, kicking you in the butt, and who knows your lifting style is priceless. When you have someone like that, it really puts your mind at ease when entering a comp.
Also, when training in the gym, it is really in your best interest to have at least one other spotter (if not two) at the time of you 1RM. If you only have 2, place one at each end of the bar.

Overall, check into some of the federations’ websites, and go to several comps as an observer. Do lots of research so you know what you’re getting into.

Best of luck, and keep us posted on your results.
