Getting the Carbs/Protein/Fat for basic foods like steak, pork chops, oats, etc. are pretty straight forward. However, I am confused on how to derive these things when it comes to a "mixed" meal. For instance, for dinner my wife made a meal with the following items: Wheat pasta, Fat-free cream cheese, margerine, green & yellow & red peppers, zuchinni(sp?)and a couple of other things I can't seem to remember right now, but I'm guessing that I had about 1.5 cups of this combination, how do I come up with the actual C/P/F for this when I can't be sure on the exact amounts of each?

You have to enter all of the individual ingredients and work out a total volume. Then divide the total into servings sizes. It's really the only way to do it. In the FT-Pro version, it does give you the option to create custom foods, so at least you only have to do it once. I now have entries for homemade chili, soup, pasta dishes etc.

Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there.

usually when I come across something like this I try to determine the entire amt of the whole dish. Such as total amt of pasta, total amt of cream cheese, etc. Total the calories, fat, carbs and protein of all ingredients then estimate how much of the total I had.
