Well I must say only being at the gym for about 45 min I'm feeling it. I did 15 min of cardio at my HR range and then did my legs. I didn't do squats since I did not see the smith machine mentioned so I did leg curls.
20 @ 30lbs
16 @ 50lbs
10 @ 65lbs should have been 15
6 @ 80lbs should have been 14
Back of thigh was worse
20 @ 30
8 @ 40 should have been 16
0 @ 0
0 @ 0 and same reps for top
I know I need to use lighter weights but most of the machines statred at 20 or they said 1. Does anyone know what the 1 stands for is that 10 then 2 is 20?
Well I hope Tuesday is better then today.
As for the eliptical thing its odd I feel like its getting away from me I'll stick with the treadmil for now.

1,2,3 stand for 10,20,30 yes your were correct. Leg Curls do sometimes make your lower back sore, they do it to me as well. Try standing leg curl rather then lying they don't bother me near as much maybe it'll be the same for you. You don't have to have a smith machine to do squats, just have a trainer or someone who knows what they're doing to help you. Regular squats will do much more for you then smith machine squats.

Training legs for the first time can be really hard. I had been working out for a while and completely neglected training my legs. After my first day I could barely walk out of the gym my legs were shaking so much. Just use low weight at first and stick with it, you will get stronger.
The machines at my gym go by 10lb increments and also have smaller weights at the top of the stack to add 5lbs at a time.
I actually find that adding a small amount of resistance on the elliptical makes it easier for me. With no resistance I also get the feeling that it is running away and spend more energy trying to hold it back. You might want to give that a try.
