First set of reps

I have been doing this for a while and I still am not sure about the firsts series of reps. Often it says to do twenty. My question is is this a warm up set. SHould I be using a lighter weight beacuse of the extra repetitions?

Also, how much weight should I be incrreasing after each week.

Yes it it a warm up set but you still want to use a weight where you can just complete 20 reps. If at the end of the 20 reps you could keep going 3-5 more times increase your weight next work out.

Right! The first set with high reps. is the warmup set.

As far as the increase in weights for the consecutive weeks, you'll have to see if you can increase them...but you need to maintain the number of reps. prescribed by your ft program.

I usually only do 12 reps for my warm-up set. Is this ok or do I need to do more reps to warm-up?

I think the number of warm-up reps will depend on the excercise and the individual. On my chest day, I start out with 20 pushups, followed by stretching, then 15 reps of incline bench. Your warmup will probably be different. Do whatever it takes to get the blood flowing to that area of the body you are working. With lighter weight, it will take more reps to achieve this.

Also, as a general rule, you should do only about 50% of the weight of your highest working set. For example, recently I have been going up to 275lbs on flat bench on my last set. That means I should be warming up with about 135lbs to 140lbs.
