Hello. Just joined the site tonight. I've been browsing the boards for a little while and figured I should introduce myself and tell you a little about while I'm here.

I'm 5'3", 157 pounds, 32 years old. I don't recognize the person in the mirror any longer and really want "me" back!! I've lost weight on diet plans before and have kept it off for at least a year but then end up getting bored with the program and gaining everything back. I know that exercise is key to looking great, feeling great and staying healthy - That's why I'm here.

They there and welcome to FT! Tell us more about these old diet plans you've used in the past. The more we know about what you've done, the more we can help you figure out what to change to make the weightloss stick.

I was successful on the weight watchers points plan - very meticulous with the program. I lost 30 pounds and reached my goal weight. I got extremely bored with counting points for everthing and figured out ways to manipulate the program to where it was no longer healthy by saying things like "if I eat that salad for lunch then I have the chocolate bar and french fries for dinner", "if I skip breakfast then I can have that milkshake at lunch"...

I also tried the South Beach diet but didn't like the restrictions they put on you. I made it past the phase 1 diet but still felt limited in the phase 2 portion.

I think my largest problem is that I want to tone up and build muscle but I'm mentally not at the point that a strict diet is the answer. I'm VERY excited to kick off my fitness program on Monday. I hope it will motivate me to change my diet habits as well!!!

Welcome to Freetrainers, and congratulations for changing your lifestyle.
Forget about all the 999 diets out there. If any of them worked, new ones wouldn't be coming out. Why I say that is most people do not stick with them, not only you. You are starting out on the right track now. You have created a fitness program, and with that you will see yourself wanting to eat healthier foods in order to keep those workouts on track. Remember, you have to eat often, like 3-5 time a day (including healthy snacks), which includes proteins, good carbs, and healthy fats. If its in a box or if it's white, don't touch it. Good luck and keep us posted with your success!

Steel cut oatmeal comes in a box! So does brown and wild rice and whole wheat pastas. I'd say go to the diet and nutrition board and print of the grocery list for healthy eating. If you shop from that list, you're bound to be eating well.

Just remember that every little bit helps. Just because you only have thirty minutes to do an activity doesnt mean its not helping. If you do thirty minute activites everyday they add up. Good luck!

You don't even have to do all 30 minutes at the same time. 2 15 minute bouts count, too. :)
