I have been doing my exercises mon, wednes, and fri. Been doing my cardio on tues and thurs and sat.. I have been taking my boys for walks in the evenings for my cardio, but I am not forsure how long or how far I should walk to help with my work out... could anyone help me out here?? would really appericate it.. I cant walk to very fast as I have both boys walking with me. Altho they do real good about walking pretty far distances with out needing to stop and rest, suprisingly!!!
My guess is a couple of miles to really be a productive walk. From everything I've read a runner will burn just as many calories as a walker in the same mile...however it will take them half the time. See if there's a way you can get them to speed up a bit...bicycle's, tricycles...whatever works for them depending on age. If they're stroller bound try to get one of those one handed jogging strollers. Might find one cheap in the paper or at a garage sale. That way if you're pressed for time and distance you can squeeze in more distance. Try to do HIIT (good threads on this...do a fit buddy search on it)to keep it interesting and just have the kids try to keep up.
I know what it's like though...got a 8 yr old and a 4 yr old and we try to go for walks every few days. My 8 yr old usually rides his scooter or bike and the 4 yr old has a little motorized car that he rides...if he doesn't then I end up carrying him on my shoulders...which is a good workout as well.
