An atheist was taking a walk through the woods. "What majestic trees!
What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!" he said to himself. As he was walking alongside the river he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. He turned to look. He saw a 7 foot grizzly charge towards him. He ran as fast as he could up the path. He looked over his shoulder and saw that the bear was closing in on him. He looked over his shoulder again, and the bear was even closer. He tripped and fell on the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up but saw the bear right on top of him, reaching for him with his left paw and raising his right paw to strike him. At that instant the Atheist cried out: "Oh my God!..." Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent. As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky: "You deny my existence for all of these years, teach others I don't exist, and even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?" The atheist looked directly into the light, "It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask You to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps could you make the BEAR a Christian?" "Very well," said the voice. The light went out. The sounds of the forest resumed. And then the bear dropped his right paw, brought both paws together and bowed his head and spoke: "Lord, bless this food, which I am about to receive from thy bounty through Christ our Lord Amen.":big_smile::big_smile: -------------- Foolish consistancies are the hobgoblins of small minds. well, actually Charlie, if God had made the bear one of the hipocritcal diciples you read so much about, then the ending would go a little something like this: ...so the bear stripped him naked and violated the man, urging the atheist not to cry in disgust, as it was God's will that he be given all the pleasures of the animal kingdom. |

Live right, die well. You will be judged accordingly, right?
I honestly believe that as long as you live a truthful, honest life and try to do right in all of your decicsions, it won't matter what religion is right - most go by the basic tenets of living right, doing right, being truthful and good. Live well, die without fear. You may end up in a purgatory situation or as a lower life form, either way, you won't know what it was that got you there. Or maybe you will, do you suppose raoches are like 'Oh no! You can't squash me! I was a catholic priest (molesting altar boys) in my past life!!!! -------------- \"Achieving worthwhile goals requires a consistent investment of time and effort on your part....The rewards you receive will be in direct proportion to the consistent effort you put forth.\" Brian Johnston, The Power of The Champions |

Wow this is deep...ok I'll bite.Carl Sagan made an interesting point in his book "Pale Blue Dot"(and I'll have to paraphrase as I haven't read it in years)that if he were to accept the idea that if there was a religion that truly represented the Creator and expressed the Divine Will for mankind, that religion would not be effected by all the diviseness caused by political, ethnic, and racial barriers so common today, but it's tenents would be applicable to all humans living everywhere, and would work for the common good and uplifting of the entire human family.Carl Sagan was not professing to be a believer however, but had observed the orderliness of the universe and drew his conclusions from that, much like Isaac Newton. This religion would be based,in part, on what is called "agape",or principled love,a love of right standards. For example, the kind of love that causes violent men to lay down their weapons, not out of fleeting emotion, but because it is the right thing to do.

charlie826,
No, I am having a good day.I have found many informative threads throughout this forum and am off to a great start on the fitness program from ft. Thanks for the welcome. fsdsk, I will not back off, and I am not intimidated by the comment of yours being "not alone". I have been reading many posts and threads in here my 5 little days of membership and have found it to be quite informative & user freindly. I posted that in hopes of having Charlie see that not all people like to be drawn by interest into a thread just to be put down by what one may think is funny. If it were not meant to insult an Atheist, then there should have been more consideration in the title of the thread. I am sure Charlie is a funny guy and has helped many with there goals. (and hopefully he can do the same for me) If the thread was titled ,Christian/Atheist joke,I would have nothing to say. I wouldn't have felt like I was tricked into thinking that this was "for the Atheists". It's a little like a slap in the face. I hope you understand. |

Jo there are some other athiest posts and they got kind of heavy. Maybe this post was a very deeply subconscious post to tweak those who particapated in those. Then again I'm not really rhat deep or devious. It was more likely just a simple silly joke. If you read more than the joke you saw that this "athiest" post covered ground from priests to insinuated moth sex to deep philisophical discussion to one poor unfortunate having my underwear on his head.
If you were offended you should probably not read posts in the living, male, female, over 40 or. under 25 boards. You won't be happy with most of them. For goodness sake don't do a search on The Last Temptation, boobs or butts, masterbation or anything that may insense you. But if you need help reaching your fitness goals or weight control, the sky's the limit on the other boards. Jo, you need to get a life.
As a christian, I can honestly say that I don't believe in a "christian bear," or a "magic sky creature" but it's cute that you think so. Nobody "lured you in here." Jo, anybody can make any point by quoting what somebody says partially. If you read my responses to you entirely I don't see why you feel the need to make derogatory comments.

Before you read this, if you decide to read this Jo, consider that I am not trying to make you a Christian or religious. I respect your belief and in my belief I will pray for you.
Christian's strive to be more like Jesus but constantly make mistakes on the path. This is what Christian's call living the Christian life. We will never be perfect because we are human, but we can try which shows to Him that our hearts are there. For Christians they believe Jesus died on the cross to save them from the sins they have and will commit. The catch is they have to _try_ to be more like Jesus and not sin, but that is why Jesus died on the cross (as believed by Christians) knowing that we cannot ever be like Jesus. Otherwise without trying, they do not truly believe in Jesus. Just wanted to state a few facts that are common misconceptions of the Christian religion. Many tend to believe that Christians are meant to be perfect. This causes a lot of criticism against the religion when a Christian sins. The whole idea of the word Christian is the belief of Jesus Christ who died to save us of our sins. Sorry if this offends anyone, but this is something I believe needed to be said. -------------- Seeking out motivation does not motivate you to seek out results. - Paul Post mark - PaulsMark - Post mark |
