A buddy of mine pre-mixes his post work-out protein shakes and freezes them for travel. My gut feeling is that this may alter the protein in some way. Am I right? What would happen to the glutamine ? Anybody else out there do this? Thanks for your input.

As far as I know you can freeze them, it is heating of the protein that alters it's state. I freeze mine sometimes before work so they will keep till I am ready for them.

In the summer, I freeze them all the time. This will not denature the protein in any way.

Thanks BB1 & Sandy. If I add glutamine to the shake, will it be affected?

I will have to get Ron to answer that one, but I really don't think so.

Ron and I discussed this and I learned from him that glutimine can become unstable in fluid after about 20 to 30 mins. Take your glutamine within 20 to 30 mins after mixing it in whatever liquid you are adding it to.

I tried it and it works great! The frozen shake even acts as an ice pack, keeping the rest of the food cool, extra bonus when you live out of a suitcase and weight is an issue. Thanks again guys.
