Im starting the 8 week muscle mass programme as i want a more structured routine. However how long should i rest between the different exercises. I will be clear i do not mean between sets. I mean how long should i rest between doing say, my reccomended four sets of front dumbell raises and starting my 4 sets of side lateral raises?

any help would be really appreciated. thanks

Rest just long enough to keep good form when starting the next set or exercise. Listen to your body. Shorter rest is better, but don't sacrifice good form or safety.

Depends on the person. I rest anywhere from 2 minutes, up to 10 the weeks leading up to a competition. It also depends on the exercise, goals, etc. I would not have someone looking to build mass rest 5 minutes between sets, but I would not have a powerlifter lifting every 90 seconds. Exercise selectionis extremely important. When I do snatches, I feel ready again after 30 seconds, but if I don't wait at least 3 minutes, I will fail and not have the explosion needed to complete the lift.
