is it recommended to take muscles to full failure if your looking to increase mass and size? any thoughts on nitro tech?

I always do fewer reps 6-8, and lift heavy for gaining size. I never go to FULL failure but I go to where each set is very difficult. On the last set I will need a spot though. I always heard good things about taking cell tech and nitro tech together. I took cell tech once and gained some size but it is just too expensive for me. Now I just eat good and often and take creatine and protein. But what works for me might not work for you.

Working to failure is very popular in the magazines. In reality, unless you have a spotter, most people will not go to absolute failure. Truth is, if you're going to failure with a partner, they are doing the majority of the work, not you. It's better to complete less reps strong than go to failure and sacrifice form. That's my opinion though.
-------------- The meek shall inherit the Earth, but the strong and muscular will carry them through it! That which does not kill me can only make me stronger.

I agree with jplatz to a point but I'd also like to throw in partial reps as an alternative to taking a lift to failure. I workout almost entirely by myself unless I'm doing circuits with my wife on machines. If you're really wanting to overload a muscle group, you can literally take any move to and past the point of failure by doing partials at the top of a move and still safely put down the bar. This works on virtually any exercise. Rest pause is another way to achieve the same affect. The shocking moves can be a good part of your workout arsenal if used affectively.
