Hi all,

I am one day from finishing 8 weeks of the intermediate Gain Muscle Mass program. Which puts me at over 6 months (same program, beginner before this last 8 weeks) of working out.

The question I have is, when I switched from beginner to intermediate it changed the following:

My Monday workout went from a little over an hour to almost two hours.

Thursdays went from under one hr to just above one hour.

Saturdays went from 45mins to just about one hour.

The Mondays are what are killing me. I stuck with it for the full 8 weeks, but wowzers - I went from never exercising in my life.. needless to say it was a shocker. ;) I think I have always read that your workout should not be much over an hour .. lets say < 1.5hrs...

I am reluctant to add another day as I am afraid that it will give me yet another 2hr day to workout. Mondays after work are already shot because I work 50+hr weeks.

Anyone think that 2hrs is too long? I don't rest more than 1.5mins between sets... maybe I just need some encouragement here.. or any suggestions? Next Monday will be a new program... I was going to continue doing the same.

Thanks!

I'm just finishing up 8-week mass - on the four day/week plan. I usually get in under an hour - less than my old routine. How much time do you take between sets/exercises?

Hey how about your results?

Therein lies the problem with computer designed routines - they're only as well designed as the programmers who wrote the software. There's a missing link there, if the programmers don't follow the rules that the trainers set forth well enough, it leads to stuff like that. That's why you'll never catch me doing a FT program.
Two hours in far too long for a workout. It's understandable that you don't have time for four days a week and the program should not demand that you do. Post your routine here and we'll see what we can do with it.
Otherwise, if you're interested in something a bit more intense and more professional, go to t-mag.com and click on FAQ's. Scroll down to the routines and go nuts.

Im doing the 8 week mass program on the 3 day/week plan. Im in the gym for 45min to 1 hour. Its fine for me. I just dont like how the first set is a huge one. 20 reps is too much.

The 20 reps are a warm up set, use it for just that and proper form.

Shaolin_911 - Are you on the Beginner plan? Sounds like what my workout used to be. Results? Well, in 26 weeks (the last 8 being Intermediate) I have gotten results.. but I started from never working out in my life.

Here are some of my results (my bodyfat is the same so I am bigger but not cut.. I wish I could lean out.. but im not running... etc.. ugh) I was 186 when I started, now I am 198. 5'10.5". 30yrs old.

Exercise, Weight increase in 26 weeks (just some, random order)
Wide grip pulldown, 70lbs
One Arm Cable rows, 90lbs
Side Cable Laterals (hard to increase!), 10lbs! Its like this will all the Shoulders.. except shoulder press.. whats the prob?!?
Cable curls, 50lbs
Cable Pressdowns, 30lbs
Leg Extension, 110lbs
Leg Curls, 6lbs
High Cable crossover, 30lbs
H-Bench, 50lbs

Comments?? Suggestions?? Other Examples anyone??

Rsquade - Like I said, I don't rest more than 1.5mins between sets. Sounds like you are also doing Beginner.. those are about the times it used to take. I just feel Intermediate should not be almost 2hrs on Monday (3 day program). Like I said, a new one starts next Monday (today is Sat) so I will see if it happens yet again. Man I hope not, its killing me.

Carivan - Correct, I used to do the 20 with full weights, until week number 12 or so, where I use the 1st of the 4 sets with small amounts of weight (if I even do them at all). I try and stick to my own 6-12rep, 3 set rule. From all the info I have read, it seems to be the way to go.

Edit: Leg Curls above should be up 60lbs, not 6. ;)

big-e - I'm doing intermediate level. I try to rest no more than 30 seconds between sets, 1 minute between exercises - somewhat to reduce time and somewhat to keep moving. I time my rests by counting during a stretch. When its going right, I get a kind of rhythm going which helps carry my workout along.

I find 4-5 exercises per workout of typically 4 sets translates to around 30-40 minutes lifting time - add in 10 minutes of cardio and abs days/week and thats an hour or so.

Now, I am kidded about being anti-social, when I'm in the "zone" I walk right by friends without noticing.

Hey Im looking for a 10+ workout program that will add mass and both tone me up at the same time. Any suggestions. And if possible can you provide exercises by the day
