i am trying to gain a little weight as i am very slim (65 kilos at 5 ft 10) but the place that i seem to gain most on is my belly. Is this normal for people with slim physiques?

What kind of training/exercising are you doing? If you are doing resistance training, are you eating enough protein? You need to hit the muscles hard with heavy weight, and then eat good quality food. If you are eating the wrong foods, you can surely make the scale go up, but not with weight you will be happy with. Please provide a bit more information for us to work with.

thanks for the reply....i'm following the routine for beginners as offered by freetrainers
mon....chest, shoulders , triceps 2 exercises of 4 x 6-8 reps
wed....back, biceps..2 exercies of 4x6-8 reps

friday...legs and calves...same as above for exercises and reps...

i end each routine with ab work...

as for food i am trying to balance between carbs (porridge, couscus, rice, wholegrain bread) and proteins(chicken and tuna) ...and i take whey protein as a supplement ...
