Hi everybody,
I have a big problem. I started working out about 3 weeks ago. I go to the gym almost every day. Mainly I do pilates, weights, and try to do some sort of cardio every time I'm there. But my pants are getting tighter and tighter. Also I gained about 5 lbs. over the past three weeks. What am I doing wrong? Honestly, I didn't really change my eating habits. But since my eating is the same and I'm working out more, shouldn't I be looing Inches? I'm not to concerned about pounds since I know that muscle weighs more than fat. But I WANT TO LOSE INCHES and I seem to be doing something wrong.
Can anybody help?

Well, I am a student and right now I do babysitting for a living. I'm surrounded by cookies, chips, candy, etc. all day. I also eat out of boredom (which i realize is a very bad thing). I'm a smoker, and when i work long days with the kids (and therefore not having the opportunity to have a cigarette) I just start eating instead... In some ways I really want to quit smoking all together, but I know that I would eat even more... I eat three major meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) plus a lot of snacks here and there. And the snacks mainly consist of junk food. I'm not sure how to change my eating patterns/habits without even getting more cravings for junk.
I'm 25, about 173cm tall, weigh about 170lbs, wear size 10-12 in pants. Really want to get down to a size 6 or 8, but sometimes I just think that I can't do it. The last time I wore a size 8 was probably when I was 13. I'm just really starting to get discouraged... But I really want to make it...

you intuitively know the answer....the junk food has got to go....it's a source of high fats content, sugar, excess calories, etc....so cut all this stuff out...no soda, no chips, no salad dressings,no mayo, no juices, no fried foods, no pizza, etc...use common sense...

carry a water bottle and drink lots of water...whenever you crave cigarretes....or junk food...

eat higher fiber diet...30-35grams a day...fiber suppresses appetite and improves digestive functioning....

for snacks switch to healthy choices: apples, bananas, trail mix, nuts, raisins, low calorie/high protein protein bars...

Do cardio of 30-45 minutes every time you go...at a moderate pace....3-5 days a week....also don't reduce calories too drastically....try reducing calories by 200-300.....mostly from your junk foods....and you can create the rest ofthe caloric deficit through exercise....but remember to get plenty of protein....try 0.7 to 1 g of protein a day...per lb of bodyweight...to help you keep your muscle....while losing fat....

menace...has anyone told you lately you rock!! Short and to the point without being wordy (like me).

bmanu...menace is right you know what you need to do it's up to you at this point. If this is a regular babysitting job then just buy the fruit each week and keep it there. Fruit has some sugar in it so if you get the urge to eat something sweet then grab some fruit...but just as anything else not too much. However eat 3 good meals a day and 2-3 healthy snacks between meals and cardio as suggested and you're on your way.

Good luck!
