G'day everyone. I'm brand spanking new here and very excited about finding this awesome website. Yahhh now I can work on a sensible diet and exercise plan, and have cool people to chat with and seek advice from! I'm sure there will be plenty of questions as I'm totally new to dieting and exercise. My main concerns are my waist-line (or rather lack of..lol) and hips..especially the love handles! Hopefully the ab workout ft have given me will sort that! My main aim is to lose about 8-10 kgs (10-15 pounds?), tone up and maintain it before I get married in 8 months time:) I want to buy an ab workout machine, but there are so many different ones??? A machine that still lets u watch TV sounds good...hehe Any advice here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks heaps!

Hi, snowy5!

I wanted to suggest that you might want to start with some basic abdominal exercises while using cardiovascular exercise to burn the layer of fat over your abs and eating right to give your body the proper nutrients to add muscle while causing fat stores to burn. It really isn't ab exercise that causes the abs to shrink, but the cardio, total body strength training and nutrition that causes the fat to subside around the middle while the beautiful abs are defined underneath. I am not a fan of abdominal machines, but a simple roller might interest you.

Good luck and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! My own was last September.

G'day Snowy,
From one Aussie to another, I just wanted to welcome you to this wonderful site. As bodysculpt said, diet, cardio and weights are just as important to achieving beautiful abs.

Use fitbuddy, at the bottom of the page, to find out almost anything you need to know.

Have fun,
Donna

Thanks for the warm welcome bodysculpt and dee tee :)
I'm not an aussie but..close deetee...a KIWI...lol. Thank you both for your great advice. I have been concentrating on the cardio up until joining this site...but my diet is a complete shocker right now, and I'm worried that will cancel out any cardio benefits. I think I'm gonna have to join weight watchers as the food on here is all american branded from what I can tell. 11g of fat a day??? OMG I had that much fat on my toast for breakfast...grrrrr do I have to give up marg and cheese?...looks that way..lol. The amount of sugar I consume is disgusting too as I'm such a coca cola/tea/coffee addict. I'm yet to get use to diet soda! I don't eat ANY fruit..and have been told that that is my problem as far as sugar is concerned. So..I'm working on this one, and drinking more of the good ole H20. Anyway, thanks heaps, good luck with everyone's healthier and fitter tommorow...looks like I'm off to start my first day of my exercise routine:big_smile:

Keep smiling all,
Kellie

Hi again snowy,
Close enough, kiwi, aussie, same part of the world! You don't have to give up your cheese, just cut down. The sugar could be a problem though, I cut down over time and now I can't have sugar on, or with, anything. It tastes terrible. Try lowering your amount by half a teaspoon a week, until you get to none. It's easier that way.

Perhaps you could try the pepsi max instead of diet soda. I think it tastes better than diet drink and is still better for you. Or perhaps switch to the caffeine free stuff, it could be the caffeine you are craving.

Is there any fruit you like? I found myself not eating fruit too because I didn't think I liked a lot of it. I found Gala apples, which are delicious! I also like a lot of seasonal stuff, grapes and navel oranges, kiwi fruit and pears. MMmmm, find some that you like and it wont be such a chore to eat them.

There are a lot of good tools in here, if you use them you will succeed. Have a blast.

Thanks heaps Donna!

I'm gonna try out weight watchers when i can afford to join in a few weeks time..but yeah..the processed cheese has to go (weight watchers actually has a very yummy one ive tried before). I'm not sure whether it's the sugar or the caffeine i crave in coke..but I'm not really a big sweet tooth other than sugar in my beverages..heck with 3-4 teas/coffees/cokes a day that might explain why...lol. Good advice with how to cut down my sugar consumption. I do only use brown sugar in anything (white sugar is blahhhh), and I know cutting back on the tsp's ain't that hard considering I used to only have half a sugar prior to meeting my partner 7 years ago....who I blame for my bigger food portions and increased fat intake!!!...lol (jk really).

Yes..I am rediscovering fruit. Funny that, cos as a kid we were always out climbing trees and pilliging fruit left right and centre:surprised: Yesssssss...gala apples are the yummiest apples..and golden pears are in season...yummoooo. I read pears have a very low GI so I'm happy bout that! And OMG...what has been so unpalatable about fruit...it's the bee kneesssssss!!!

Anyway, i'm sure my weekly food shop on friday is gonna be very interesting indeed....lots of fruit and veges, bottled water (unfortunately the water here doesn't taste too great)inspection of food content etc... It's all moving on up and at em from here on in though, and I'm pumped and excited :)

This site rocks...the amount of information I have learnt just from flicking through all the messages and topics over the last two days is absolutely fantastic! Go FREEEEE Trainers.com...Mwahhhhhhhhhh

Big hugs all
Kellie:)
