to get abs it means i have to lose weight rite, but to lose weight dont u have to use up more calories than u eat. i find this impossible, because that means if i have 1300 calories a day, i have to lose 1400"i dont think its safe either". On a daily basis I eat 1500 calories and im losing 500 from cutting back, 700 from cardio, totaling only 1200. Does that mean I won't lose any weight???

personally, 1500 cals doesnt sound like enough. remember, there is a basal metabolic rate of calories you need to take in to run your body systems.. this is if you are completely sedentary, lying in bed all day and just breathing. every bit of exerciseon top of that you do during the day requires additional calories, and these need to be factored into your calories in/calories out equation.

how old are you? height? weight?

watashi...you're right it's not safe which is why I have personally told you each time you've asked this questions, which has been 4 times in recent weeks and I'll tell you the same thing I told you the other times. Stop complicating it.

First off 5'6" and 136 lbs isn't excessively overweight. Focus more on fitness then losing weight.

Second, bropie is right...your Basal Metabolic Rate is what you burn throughout the day when you do absolutely nothing. You are totally neglecting this number.

Example(just an example, don't base your life off of it):
I eat 2000 calories in a day
my Basal Metabolic Rate is 1600
Then my activity for the day is an extra 400 calories

With this scenario I would neither lose or gain weight.
If I wanted to lose all I would have to do is cut about 200-300 calories a day.

If you're burning 700 calories a day from cardio you're doing yourself more harm then good. As you're causing your coritisol levels to sky rocket, which is telling your body to store fat. Being healthy and fit isn't a rocket science...more then anything it takes time and patients.

sstump1, i just checked sum stuff on my bmr and stuff, nd i got 1600 sumtin, but once i added everything in , like sitting around, sleeping those sort of stuff i got 2400, and im reducing my cardio to 200 - 300 a day. im eating 1700 calores a day, does that mean the reamining number that imsuppose to eat in a day *which is 2400, minus 1700 gives me 700* 700, means that is how much calories i am losing.

watashi you are making this way too complicated. look..

your bmr is 1600.. you are eating 1700. you need 2400 to support your activity in the day. therefore you are eating 700 less than your maintenance. this is too much. eat 2200 calories, and see from there.

if you want to see your abs, you need a deficit in calorie intake. 700 cals is too much in my opinion, and will force your body to store some of the food you take in as fat for energy. 2200 cals will be a 200 cal deficit from your maintenance.. therefore your body will start looking to your fat stores for energy. with the 700 cal deficit you have, there is potential for your body to break down muscle for energy. give the 2200 cal thing a go for a few weeks.. if you arent getting what you want, drop 100 cals and do that for a few weeks.

then again im not sure about my daily activities adding up to 2400, cuz now im only losing 250 calories from cardio. and i dont think walking or eating or adding activites to those bmr calculator works becuase usually i dont think i ever ate more than 2000 in my life, nd ill feel like im eating too much.
