Ok, I finally got my younger brother to agree to try and loose some weight. He is about 13, somewhere around 5'6 and overweight. I don't have any real measurments. But, I signed him up with FreeTrainers (memog). Because he can't go to the gym and has no weights available I signed him up for the home training weight loss 4wk program, 3 days a week.
If you compared me 2 my brother you would think I'm a stick. And you would never guess we were related. I know that if he doesn't do something know, he's gonna have major problems later on.
What I'm not sure on is what advice to give him as far as what food he can/can't eat and how much cardio he will be doing since the plan doesn't specify any cardio. He thought I was kidding when I said that he'll be eating more often. He probably thinks McDonalds is included in those meals. If anyone has good advice that I can pass on to him, it would be really helpful. Especially on things like how much cardio and how often.

OSCARG,
I have been overweight my whole life-refer to my fat picture. People who are overweight don't get there from simply eating too much, in my opinion. Many overeat due to psychological problems--big or small. I only recently was able to "fix" my emotional and psychological problems through serious introspection. When I started to question everything I did, I became a different, healthy person from the neck up, while still being extremely healthy from the neck down. It is very nice that you want to help your brother--I wish I'd had someonoe to hold my hand and show they cared. I know this isn't cardio or nutrition advice, but to fix the outside the inside has to be healthy first. At 13, change for him will be much easier than at 24 or 34 or 44. Just remember to be gentle, as overweight people tend to be very sensative about themselves.

Watch the carbs, get only good carbs and protein same food as you.
If you can get cardio in everyday go for it. start off with 5 min, and increase as required. Don't forget....WATCH THE HEART RATE!

@alcroo: You don't have a picture!?! And, your very right. But I don't think thats a problem in this case, I hope not & don't even wanna think about it. I do understand what you mean. My closest friend has always been overweight and has VERY poor healthy habits. I've met several people who are overweight and are very sensetive about it. That really annoys me on the inside b/c the way I see it, everyone has problems but weight problems can be fixed, usually. So why not do something about it.
As for my brother. We have a very distant relationship. And since my mother knows that I'm a fitness enthusiast, she though I might be able to do something for him since I never do. I'm just trying to tell him his FT plan, which should be very easy, what he should eat and that's it. I'm not trying to force him, nagg on him and I don't expect him to keep working out afterwards. if he does. Good for him.
@carivan: Thanks for the tip. I think that covered everything.
