Anyone have good experience with a certain brand of glucosamine product? There are so many to choose from. It seems like the ones with msm and chondrotin may have the best results.

As I mentioned in the earlier thread, I use Cosamin DS made by Nutramax Labs. It is the product that has undergone the most testing and is proven to be pure and effective. Recommended by many doctors. However, it is also one of the most expensive. If anyone has a less expensive allternative that is proven to work and has been clinically tested for purity and effectiveness, I would be interested as well.

I was actually speaking with a pharmacist about glucosamine and chondroitin today, and he said that it's been shown in recent studies that the two together may not be as effective as glucosamine alone with MSM. The reason, apparently, is that chondroitin and glucosamine are a similar molecule that 'compete' to be utilized in the body, so they may not be as effective when taken together.

I have found out that the sulfate version is much better then the hci version which is cheaper to make. The molecule is smaller and more absorbable. I just bought some from Wal-Mart. I just bought the Glucosamine alone and just the sulfate not a mixture like some of them have. The price is very reasonable. Like $9.00 for a large bottle. I will let you know how it does. It's just plain Glucosamine Sulfate.

You are right about the sulfate version being more effective than the HCL. the biggest problem with studies of different brands has been that as a supplement it is not highly regulated and you don't always get the # of mg you expect. Don't know anything about MSM but I will find out. However, studies have shown that using Glucosamine and Chondroitin in combination has a synergistic effect. There is a bestselling book called the arthritis cure that gives the details. In fact the forward was wriitem by a MD in my town. Good luck
