I think I recall making a statement that I felt Glucosamine was overrated...
Well, here it is from the new england journal of medicine. You have to sign up to get the full text, but you can figure it out from the abstract.

hello wrestler125,
I have bought on ebay...............................

Bioflex gel 100ml......2 for the price of 1, for 6 pounds.
On the back of the gel it writes: *Glucosamine works as the "cement" in the connective tissues for rebilding into cartilage and promoting maximum joint health.*

any feedback?

john weatherley.

"Conclusions Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate alone or in combination did not reduce pain effectively in the overall group of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. Exploratory analyses suggest that the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate may be effective in the subgroup of patients with moderate-to-severe knee pain."

I think a problem with this study was the focus on reducing pain related to osteoarthritis (though it may help in general knee pain), especially in comparison to Tylenol, not even an NSAID. Both my orthopedic surgeon and my sports medicine doc suggested glucosamine (not chondroitin) for increased flexability and reduced stiffness in joints, not so much for pain. I have used it, as well as many of my fellow athletes, for that reason, and with pretty damn good results..... especially at my age!

I have to agree with rev on this one. I have always had a problem with flexability and stiffness when staying in a squat position for even just a few seconds, and ever since I started taking Glucosamine I have much more flexability and nearly no stiffness.
