Someone I work with who looks like he knows what he is talking about told me to drink lemon water (because it's a natural diaretic and cuts through fat) followed by green tea (makes you 'dispose' of the fat).
Is this true? And if so, how much lemon extract or juice should I put in a bottle of water and how often should I drink it and the tea?

Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it is gone past me I will turn to see fear's path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain

Green tea is reputed to have fat burning properties. But again, by itself, it will do nothing. It takes a pretty hefty amount amount also. The best thing to do with green tea is drink it, enjoy it for the array of antioxidants(great for you).
Lemon water is a natural diruetic, but so what? Tea is also for that matter. Want to let him in on something, tell him to drink apple cider vinegar before working out and during!

I drink apple cider vinegar before each meal....one tablespoon mixed with almost one cup of water. I heard it does good for breaking down fat so I drink it.

Bingo! And if your friends can take it(not great for the breath), it really does help. Will also lower the glycemic index of anything eaten with it.
