Newbies to fitness, listen up: this is fantastic first time info to get you rolling in your regimen. And this list isn't just for bodybuilders - it should be a basis for anyone who is concerned about their health. Hell, it's great for us powerlifters, too, we just triple the intake amount... LOL!

Great job as usual, bb1...

Glad to help. Takes alot of the guesswork out of diet. I have had this list for quite some time, and there have been lots of posts lately about what are complex carbs, etc. Thought this would be a good time to post this.

Thats a great list... But what do we eat the next day?

Are those the only beans you should have (pinto, black & kidney) because I'm a vegan and I've been eating some navy beans! Is there any beans I should avoid?

I live in the UK as well, Rascal, and you can get pretty much most of it...at least the 'real' food part of it, and a lot of the other stuff you can find local substitutes. As an expat american I'm pretty good at ferreting out the Uk equivalent for a lot of US things. Brand name things are tough, but usually there is a similar thing here, and is often the same thing, just a different name. I've never been able to find black beans, though, which I would like to. The stuff like Mrs Dash or the diet drinks I don't want anyway, so I've never looked.

If I can help you find a specific item, let me know.

bb1 and charlie - thanks much. With such a comprehensive list you'd think it'd be easy to eat right. No such luck. I live an on the go type life style. I never take the time I should to prepare meals or remember to buy myself healthy snacks that I can take with me where ever I go. I'm still trying to adjust to the idea that I even need to worry about this stuff. I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound until I was around 42. Now 44 and am getting a bit rounder in the middle. People think I'm warped cause I have a 34 inch waist, am 6'0 tall and am concerned. The issue is not that I have a 34 inch waist - it's how that waist is proportioned. I have handles where two years ago there were none. SO I'm going to have to get back into a routine - which as an Army puke I'm supposed to be doing anyway - and for the first time, couple my workout regimen with proper eating habits. I get the feeling this is going to be a serious challenge.

If you travel by car, here is a tip. This is what I do. I make up my meals and put them in Glad containers or whatever brand you choose, and freeze them. Put them in a cooler in the car. Bring a fork and knife. All gas stations these days have microwaves, and I have never ofound one yet that told me no I couldn't warm one up there. Just buy a water or something. Very simple to do, you don't have to miss a beat on your diet.
