hi everyone,
I'm going back to college sooooon, and this time I won't have a meal plan, I know how to cook, but it's just that I eat 5000 calories a day and My dad says I will only be allocated $50 a week for groceries, and I need big time suggestions on what I should buy and cook, That is simple or med. diff. to cook and that also gets all of my nutritional needs a day. Within those 5000 calories I eat around 700 grams of carbs per day, and around 180-250 grams of protein per day, I also can drink between 1-2 gallons of water every day. I feel like a Dinosaur Super Consumer when I'm at home.
HELP please!

Shop in the bulk food aisle to stock up on dry goods (oatmeal, rice, pastas etc) Buy the family packs of food (meat) seems more expensive initially but you save a lot in the end. Buy frozen veggies...they are cheaper and are just as healthy.

Go to Sam's Club (or another bulk warehouse) and spend 200-250 for the month in one stop...or 2 times a month if you don't have the storage. Reason I say that is $50 at Sam's won't last you long. Also ask for $200 just to get you started, then 50 a week to maintain your food supply...gotta get plates and forks, paper towels and stuff in the begining. Also get you a Britta water filter and plenty of filters (ask for it as a gradutation gift if you have to)...cheaper then the gallon jugs and better then the tap.
You might very well starve yourself for a few weeks till you get it figured out though...so just be frugal when you go the first time and try to plan out different meals and options you have that are within a few dollars. Rice is probably your best bet to stock up on as it goes well with a lot of stuff, but I believe brown rice is more expensive then white so it's up you if it's an option.
Otherwise break down the cost by meal and snack:
3 meals a day = 21 meals X $1.50 = $31.5
3 snacks a day = 21 snacks X $1.00 = $21
There's $52.50 a week. WOW though...that's gonna be real tough to do. This doesn't cover toiletries and stuff either.
Might try to see if this is a flexible number though or how often you can come home for dinner and how much you can have for leftovers.

well the bright side is, that my mom already took me to target and i bought enough toiletries and supplies like that to last me a good while, before I'll need to refuel.
FOOD is the big thing, since I eat like a dinosaur, but I do train my brains out.
I don't like TUNA, I love eggs. I know that pasta and rice are cheap and high carb. sources, but I think the big deal will be protein, right???? I own a few supplements and I was thinking I would really like to maintain the same eating schedule, like 3 big meals and 2 or 3 small ones in between.
Would the water Filter thing, really be better and cheaper than bottles or gallon jugs?????
Breakfast is a big deal for me and I usually have around 1000-1600 calories right there and its easy to make, then I like to have a 650 calorie carb. shake, and then lunch Idea's here??? sandwiches right????? anything better?????, then another carb. shake, Dinner Idea's???????
HELP!!!

You should be able to buy chicken and inexpensive steaks (no T-Bones or Ribeye's) by bulk to get you for a few weeks, if you got enough you could use them for lunches as well as dinners combined with the rice and pasta this should work well. Otherwise if thats to pricey then you might be eating a lot of eggs, which would be fine with me...I like em.
See if you can get your hands on a George Forman grill (garage sales are good places to find them used, or an inexpensive but similar version at wally world) so you can do 5 or 6 at a time every few days then just heat them up when you're ready to eat.
