I know I have a lot to learn, but it's fun looking back and realizing that I actually have made progress over the years. Part of that is recalling a few of those not-so-proud moments when I was the front-and-center sucker that Barnum said was born every minute.
During my more naive and formative years when I was just altosaxmandave (the band geeks will get it), a buddy of mine convinced me (after even convincing himself) that he made his tremendous "steroid-like" strength and mass gains by taking a wonder supplement called dibencozide. I bought it -- hook, line and sinker. Turns out it was (is) an overpriced vitamin B-12 derivative. What we both failed to realize at the time was that his gains were from the hard work, clean living, and training he was doing constantly while in the army. Yes, the ARMY! Tiny little facts we just failed to see at the time, in lieu of this new wonder drug.
Then there was my virgin experience of mega-dosing with niacin, as advised by a "weightlifting guru" friend (who had a sense of humor that I somehow missed and should have been prepared for). "It'll give you more energy, without making you all shaky and sh|t..." he told me. 30 minutes later, I was tearing off my clothes at the gym, I was beet red, and felt like I was on fire, and looked like I had a nasty sunburn for a couple hours. Very scary then, funny now in retrospect. (Umm, I'm not allowed in that gym anymore!)
A couple of gullible and embarassing saxman moments. I'm not proud of them, but they were learning experiences.
Anybody else ever find himself/herself to be the victim of a supplement scam or bad supplement advice?

I knew where you were going with the Niacin story as soon as I read the first line...an old trick! LOL...
It is great to reminise though. Thanks for the laugh.
As far as supplements scams, any bodybuilder who has been in the "game" for a while has had their share of supplement scams. I have spent lots of money trying all the new miracle stuff in the past. I finally figured out what works, and now is why I try so hard to help and sway people away from these money mongrels. I have paid the price, and try to aid others so they don't.
Good post tenor.
