I am soooooooooo bummed. I had it tested this morning and it shows that I am only burning 1240 calories per day at rest. Pretty slow, especially since I breastfeed!!!!
I do about 500 calories per day in cardio, and I also do strength training.
I think I messed my metabolic rate up not eating enough. She recommends I eat 1700 calories a day to fix things. However the math shows I should eat 1200 to lose a little weight.
I'm confused, should i go with the 1200 or 1700????
I am at a weight loss stand still this week. I have been losing 1.5 pounds per week. So, maybe I have been under eating?
I don't know!!!! I know you should eat 500 calories less than you burn per day in order to lose a little each week.
Can you advise me?
Is my body in starvation mode and is that why it's so low?
Ugh!
I have about 20 pounds to lose.........and I really want it gone :)
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much

Pinswess...Anything under 1200 calories a day and you're going to starve your body and it's going to start storing fat as energy. Once you start eating more your metabolism will speed up over the next weeks or so. However eat healthy and eat 6 equal minimeals a day (1700 calories a day over 6 meals is 283 calories a meal).
I did the same thing as you and it took me almost a month to lose any weight at all at first...however after that I started dropping about 2 lbs a week and now am down almost 15 lbs.
From what I've seen what you did is common, but it will take sometime to repair the damage and you body will need to know that it's going to get a constant stream of food before it starts to let go of those fat storages. However just as it learned to store them it can learn to burn them once again.
As a side note...drop all soda's or juices and drink water...lots and lots of water. I get a gallon or 2 a day...which does cause me to hold some water weight...but it's easier to burn off then the soda's.

Do you weigh 100 pounds? id so then 1200 is as low as you can go.
I think what sstump meant to say was don't go lower than 12 calories per pound of body weight. Anything lower can make you unhealthy.
I would suggest an intake of a minimum of 15 cal a day as you are breastfeeding, but make sure these calories are ALL nutritional. Your body is losing a lot of nutients like protein, fat, carbs due to milk production, and don't forget the vitamins and minerals. This is why the extra calories are needed during breast feeding.
Good luck.
