I have recently started working out again (the past 6 months) I have noticed nice muscle gains, but have neglected a good diet. I do cardio (hiit 2 times a week and running or punching bag the 2 more times). I am going into my third year in college and have gotten used to dorm food and ez mac. This summer I have began a balanced diet based on what this site has told me. I was wondering though if anyone had any suggestions of things to eat that tasted good. I have tried the oatmeal and raisins and vegetables and that stuff but as I have said I got used to ez mac and pizza that taste good. Is there a balance that I could eat and still have stuff that tastes good or does anyone know a healthy way to eat food that tastes good? Thanks for your help.

OK I'm going to out on a limb here and give my personal opinion. I believe with most foods that you do not seem to like the flavor of now, you can train yourself to like them. Did you like coffee , beer, & wine the first time you tried them (just some examples) if not, if you like them know, you have aquired a taste for them. Try healthy eating for a month and then go back to the foods you used to think tasted good, you will find that they are either very sweet or very salty and you will not find them as fulfilling. In another post we were talking about switching from regular peanutbutter to natural and how we now prefer the later.
Just give it a shot and see what happens.

Hmmm... No more Great Value Peanut Butter? I hadn't thought of that! Considering I eat it straight from the jar, going natural may be a good switch for me. (Don't worry. I have that jar marked with my name on it so everybody knows.)

I got some of that natural peanut butter. It's going to take SOME getting used to!!! I want my old peanut butter back. It tastes good straight from the jar too!! :)

Changing your eating like fsdsk mentioned and having your taste buds change does actually happen. Try it and see what you think! Good luck!!

*cottage cheese and some fruit as pinneaple, papaya or so. add 2 small spoons of honey.

*cereal (look for a good one like granola ) with light yogurt (like 225g)

*aotmeal and a protein shake

hope it helps

Ok. You mentioned the oatmeal and protein shake.

I finally bought some whey protein powder. What's the best tasting, most effective, most preferred way to prepare it? I got vanilla, since I don't like Chocolate.

Jonathan, I personally prefer the vanilla in my oatmeal with a packet of sweetener maybe some cinnamon or pumpkin spice added in.

What brand did you buy? I use Designer Whey and it requires sweetener for the vanilla and strawberry flavors. When I could eat it I preferred chocolate in my cream of wheat.

Oh, and if you do try the above do not add extra water. Let the cereal cool some then put in a scoop of powder and mix, believe me it will mix even if it doesn't look like it will.

Antoher thing you could try is some ice cubes and fresh strawberries or any other fruit you enjoy :)The ole standby, mix it with water and ice and drink!

ecle5c, healthy foods that taste delicious:)

chicken
sweet potato
anything in the veggie isle cooked or not cooked
brown rice
cottage cheese
squash
salmon
cream of wheat
yogurt
lean steak
lean pork
lean ham
eggs
Shop around the outside perimeter of any store and that is where you will find the most healthy best tasting foods! Once you eat clean for a while you will notice just how gross mac and cheese really tastes! I can't even eat any garlic type breads from the freezer section anymore because I can literally taste the "freezer" taste in it <yuck> You have trained your taste buds to prefer the types of foods you are eating, believe me you can retrain them, I have :)

Thanks, damselfly.

I don't remember what brand it is. I got it at Hy-Vee. (Is $16 for 2.xx lbs a good price?)

I haven't tried it with the oatmeal yet. I have only tried it with milk. Do you just cook the oatmeal and then stir it in like I used to do with Sugar?

Yeah. I was going to try the blender with ice and fruit, but alas, we were out of fruit. :surprised:

Okay don't ever, ever, ever mix EAS Tropical Punch protein with oatmeal. I tried this morning and it was DISGUSTING!!! It was all gridy and the two flavor's did not mix well. I guess if I want more protein in the morning I will have to try Damselfly's.

I tired some natural peanut butter years ago... hideous stuff... last week I bought some and it tastes like peanuts... different brand probably, but really, it tastes like peanuts.. which is what it's supposed to taste like I suppose... mixed it up, put it in the fridge and I could eat it right out of the jar too...

What I do with it is mix it with some oatmeal, add some honey and voila... a nice, filling snack..

Dunno if that's a good price or not Jonathan. Mine is something like $22 and I get 40 servings. Don't really care though, I have to have it lol so I'll pay whatever I have to pay :)

The cheapest place on the net to get anything is Vitaglo.com but I don't personally think they store their products properly. I got 2 bad things from them and they don't take the stuff back, you have to call the company that makes the stuff you bought! Ticked me off royally, on top of the fact that the owner was RUDE to me!! BUT tons of people swear by them so it's up to you and whoever that may want to use them.

Make sure you let the oatmeal cool some before you throw it in. But yep, just make the cereal put it in a bowl and put in the protein and you have what a lot of people call "pro-oatmeal" ; )

And Lance how could you even think that tropical punch protein could possibly taste good in the oatmeal? lol you are much braver than myself to even try it ; ) Although... some put protein powder in their cottage cheese and THAT is disgusting!!!! (they need to make a ralping smilie )

Jonathan, I read that you use milk to mix a protein shake, make sure you do not do this with your post workout shake. You will want to use water instead.

Shot of dish soap, water .......Dishes are done .....elapsed time 1 minute 30 seconds. Be sure you pour the mix into your cup before you wash the blender. If you make it in your sleep and add soap to the shake it gives you the trots.
