My 7 year old is required to bring a snack everyday to school. I think that's great since I've never thought that children could go all day at school with just one meal.

Refrigeration is not available so we are somewhat limited in our choices and I absolutely refuse to send junk food.

Today I am sending her with an orange, peeled and seperated into sections and 1/4 C of smoked almonds which she loves. I feel like something is missing and would really like for this to be more complete. Any suggestions?

Fruit. veggies, crackers and cheese, can't think of others. Oh ya, maybe get a recipe for homeade oatmeal and raisin bars.
Welcome back to school! :big_smile::big_smile::big_smile:

a protein shake for those hungry muscles :dumbbell: hehehe

seriously, hmmm what else does your daughter like to eat? how about string cheese, that's fun to play with too. how bad are those jello pudding things in a cup? maybe the jello gelatin stuff would be better and it doesn't need refrigeration. I think it's not good to let the kids have bad food in the middle of the day, I can imagine the poor teach dealing with 29 7 year olds who all just ate a candy bar...I wouldn't want to be in those shoes. It's great that you are sending healthy food for your daughter.

How bout some dry cereal put in a ziploc bag. I love Kashi go lean cereal. It's sweet and it's got lots of fiber and protein. If she likes it I'd say that's a fabulous choice.

Thanks guys.

The children are only allowed to bring healthy snacks, no cookies, jello etc. I am trying to choose only foods from the bodybuilder grocery list and not bore her to death. I thought the orange segments and almonds was a good snack, but not a complete meal which is what I really want her to have.

if i was a kid, i'd request apples and/or celery with natural peanut butter. wheat thins would also make my list of things to include in my snack time lunch box.

There are tons of options anni :)

Beef jerky, granola, grapes, apple sauce (any fruit in a cup) green peppers, cherry tomatoes, apple, orange, banana, bagel and cream cheese (single serving package), cheese (should keep just fine) pretzels, nuts, celery, peanut butter (think it comes in it's own one serving package now) PB&J sandwich, celery, raisins, dried fruit, popcorn, tortilla chips, carrots, any cereal. I'm sure from here you can just keep adding to the list :)

Mixing any of these will give her a healthy snack to eat. I also posted a muffin recipe in the recipes section that is a complete healthy meal and my girls love them! They need to be refrigerated after cooking but will be fine for a snack at school.

My daughter loved baggies of cereal as her snack, and didn't even want the sugared ones. I've been putting this in her lunch for years, great way to get variety - just change the cereal!

Costco baggies in bulk were the greatest thing that ever happened to our family. All of the stuff listed by damselfly above can be bought for a week, then a daily amt put into a ziploc - they have snack size for little ones that are perfect. You can get cream cheese or peanut butter packets in bulk from food service stores as well.
