I am trying to figure out what a healthy would be for someone my age and height. I don't know if I have a realistic goal. I am a 26 year old woman who is 5 foot 8 inches tall. I hava a slightly larger then average build (broad shoulder, wide hips, muscular legs) I am hoping in a year to be down to 140 pounds from the 188 that I am now. Is that a reasonable goal? Could someone advise me on a healthy weight for my height. And approximatly how long it should take me to get there. According the body fat calculator on this site I have about 24% body fat. Thank you for your help.
I am a 5'8" female as well. My frame is also slightly larger than average. I gain muscle fairly quickly - so when I'm fit- I look 'athletic'. Anyway- a healthy weight range for our height is around 126-164 (according to most charts I've seen). They say 136-150 is good for a medium frame and 146-164 for a large frame. I have always felt my best when I am between 150 and 160. I think it's a reasonable goal for you to lose 48 lbs in a year. But you may find that you like the way you look when you're at 150. Good luck on your journey :)
