growing all depends on your genetics.. some people stop in their teens, some people stop in their 20's. im 19, and apparently im still growing, as people who havent seen me since ive been away from school say im taller, and when i measure its true. check with ur mom and dad as to when they stopped growing, and your grandparents, etc.

I stopped a long time ago. Actually grew very slowly till I was about 17 and then stopped. I'm only 5'4" now. However I can say i have a friend that was about my hieght in H.S. and is now 6'1" and has been for about 7 years (he's currently 28 yrs old)...so as bropie said it's genetics and I think diet does play a role in early teenage developemental years.

I was laughing the other day...I heard an advertisement on the radio, someone touting a height inducing supplement...you know, the same speal, risk free guarantee. If I hear it again, I will jot down the name for all to check out. Should be good for laugh.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

hay man your 23....and your bones have calisfied....more than likly.....if you take a drug..only thing that will get bigger.....is cartlage...nose, ears....jaw maybe...and you'll look worse than just being short.
I think the estimated thing is...mom's height(inches) + dads height( inches) /2 + 3in for guys......-5in for girls ex 65in(mom) + 73in(dad)=138/2=69+3=72.......and i'm a lil over 6 ft tall.....so thats about right. -------------- " The only true eye, is your minds eye"- plato |

Is this an accurate formula? Where did you get it?

I think that formula can't be right for everyone- in example, my mom is 64 inches, my dad is 65 inches, and I am 74 inches. According to your formula I should be....
64+65/2+3=5'7.5" or 67.5 inches, which puts me over about 6.5 inches. I don't think anyone can really determine there height, nor when they stop growing, but it may be possible to delay your growth stage (heightwise) by chemicals, but unsure if the chemicals actually help. -------------- :Hard work equals great results!: |

Someone once told me that you can get as tall as the tallest person on your moms side of the family. I'm not sure if that is accurate either.

Human Growth Hormone will increase height if taken early enough, but once the growth plates in your bones fuse, it's too late, and your bones enlarge the other way, leading to big nose, jaw etc.
It's usually only prescribed for people who are very much shorter than their peers. I don't know why you want to be taller, but personally I don't think it's that important. |

I must the exception to those hieght theories, my moms 5'4 and my dads 5'9 im 6'2 so the equation was about 2.5 inches off, and im taller than anyone in my family on either side, the grandpa on my moms side is about 6 feet tall, so that puts that theory off by 2 inches.

hm..well its not ALL genetics. a big part of growing tall involves ur nutrition..how well nourished u were at a younger age..and of course sports that stimulate bone growth..things like sunlight can also help in growing taller. dont blame it all on genetics! nutrition and ur lifestyle can also affect height.

I'm in 9th grade and I'm only about 5'2" or so and I am much shorter than most people in my school. I live and I just use shortness to my advantage. Also, if your small it is alot easier to make your chest muscles show because of low body fat.

That formula was fairly accurate for me...but my cousin is 6'11" and his other brothers are 6'3". Im the runt of the family @ 6'2.5" Even my dad and grandpa are taller than me. We are all tall and lanky.

When I was having babies I read that at 2 years old your are at 1/2 your adult height. Of course, you have to know exactly how many inches you were at 2, and who does? That formula put me at 5'2" and I'm closer to 5'7"--maybe it is better for men.
Rupesh, I'm thinking you could still be growing, but by the time you are taller than your lover, will she still be your lover? I wouldn't worry about her being a little taller. My bf is 1/2" taller than me...but a few inches shorter anytime I wear heals...and I usually wear 4" heels when I do. But he's dated women over 6'. It shouldn't matter who is the taller. |

I've always understood height to be a matter of genetics and nothing else, however my dad was 6'4" and my two uncles 6'1 and my grandfather 6'1. Im between 5'10 and 5'11 and im 20 years old. I started getting serious with weight training when I was only 12 years old and once 13 in high school I was squatting 315 lbs summer before my freshman year. I sometimes wonder if the weight had some effect on my growth. Any one care to share some of thier views plz do. Also @ the top of my back I have a hump between my lats and under my neck round as a softball, the location is where I have always placed the squat bar on the back of my neck, could this lump on my back be a result of my body's natural defense against the heavy bar on my back ?
