Ah ha! lol never mind, I just saw this.  Congrats on quitting smoking!  A great first step towards getting fitter. Joining a gym and going daily is a huge step, as well. Remember, as your workout starts to feel easier, contine to increase the intensity to keep challenging your body.
What would your average daily meal plan look like?  I can give you some generalities, but if we can see what you are actually eating we can give you tips based on your consumption.  What I can tell you is to make sure you get enough protein to feed your muscles.  With a daily workout and an active job, your body will need it. Cut out all processed food and junk food, like cheese slices, chips, pop, white bread etc.  Also IF you are a beer or 2 a night after work guy, try cutting it down to a beer on the weekend as a treat.  I know this makes quite a differece for a lot of guys. Hope this helps at least a little and keep us updated!
