Hi, I'm new here. I am starting my second week on the fitness program and there are two exercises that I was givin to do that I am unable to do because a) I am a beginner and b)I am almost 300lbs.
One are the dips, I just do not have the arm or abdominal strenth yet to do this.
The other is the twisting hanging leg raises. Just can't do that right now. I was under the impression that this was a more advanced move, why would it picked for me?
Thank You!

Also, I should add, I am doing this at home with a weider home gym and do not have the availability to do anything hanging.
Any suggestions for substitutions would be helpful.
Thanks!
Emily

Hi Emily and welcome to FT! Congratulations on your first steps to a healthier lifestyle.
First of all, I just wanted to mention, be patient with the FT workout plan that you received. It is not completely customized based on your weight/ability, etc. It is a free program afterall and should be intended to be a guideline. Some modifications may be necessary as you noticed.
If you go into the fitness resources, such as where you go to find a description or explanation of an exercise, you can choose the body part you are working. You will find "hanging leg raises" under "lower abs". You can simply find another exercise in that same category that would be more suitable for you. To start, try laying on your back and doing simple leg raises that way. I say simple, but they are quite a workout.
Same with dips, they are for your triceps. You can substitute out tricep kickbacks, or raises with hand weights instead.
Good luck! I hope this helps. Don't forget a good healthy diet, lots of water and some cardio. You are doing a great thing!
