I am a college student living at home. My family lives on the 3 meals a day routine and no amount of discussion from me will change that. Worse off I haven't a job and rely totally on the food they provide. Can anyone give me ideas on how to eat healthy living in these conditions? I mean anything that is easy to do with stuff usually found in a kitchen? As I am very new to the concept of eating healthy and all I am in dire need of help developing recipes and ideas on what to eat ad when to eat. Can anyone help me with this?Perrin ---------------------------- "There is no age limit on transforming your life. I've found that the nutrition part of this site is very helpful. Get setup with the program, and try to meet the nutritional goals everyday that it gives you. You can find what kind of foods you need to get protein, carbs, fats etc. Then just pick out the foods you have at home, mix and match a bit and voila... Maybe start buying stuff from safeway or something if you can afford it. You don't have to spend tons, some good foods to get are cottage cheese, crackers, pastas, chicken, tuna, salmon etc. I've recently found that eating healthy doesn't cost a ton, it's actually saving me quite a bit of money because im not buying junk and eating out all the time. |

Try offering to do the cooking more often, then you can make it dead healthy and your mum will love you for it.There's always fruit, too. Ask them for smaller portions (try saying "I cant spend too long at the table - i have to do my homework"!) and then have a piece of fruit or a piece of bread or something between meals. That way you cann still get 5-6 small meals a day. Or you could get a job! Katie xx -------------- *My body only feels good when it burns! *Little voice telling you to quit? I totally agree with kalanchoe. If you can cook some more meals, than you can control what to put into what you eat. Also, try to get them to buy cottage cheese, that's a great between meal snack. |

I'll try that. I don't know about the cottege cheese thing though, never really liked it, but have some recipe's for protein bars .. I may use them as inbetween meals and eat lightly during my families meals.About the job thing Klanchoe .. I have AttentionDeficit Disorder and School is hard enough to keep on track with for myself as it is. If I get a job I'll neglect all my school work and concentrate on the job and I really want to graduate as a Correctional Worker in 1 years time .. I have a job for the summer but during the school year i stay unemployed because I know my ADD will not let me focus on both school and a job at the same time. Just eat the three meals they provide and see if you can get some canned tuna and some fresh vegetables in the house. You can have tuna for a snack and some fruit or veggies for another snack. It is inexpensive and it don't need to be cooked so it is very convenient.-------------- Lisa Just laugh about it.... |

Yeah, tuna in a can only runs for about .89 cents, at least around where I live. A great source of protein and omega-3's. I actually add mustard to my tuna, it is actually very good and does not affect my caloric intake. |
