I joined the gym one month ago and so far I have only missed two days I do 60 mins on the tredmill and 30 mins of cardio in the form of circut training. I am not seeing the results that I would like to see! Can someone please tell me how many fat grams and calories I should consume? I am 24 yrs old and 5'9" and weigh 325 lbs. Thanks to anyone who can help me!

30 min on the treadmill is enough. Sixty is too much.
As a guideline, one would need 15 cal/lb to maintain present weight, and less for fat loss, not going lower than 12/per pound. You would want to reduce bodyfat and at the same time keep your muscle, so train and eat a healthy diet, and also important, is rest.Hope this helps you. -------------- Scales are for dead weight: We are not dead yet! You truly need to realize that one month is a wonderful start but your body will need time to make the changes you are anticipating as thedominator mentioned. You have to be patient with yourself and realize that it takes approximately 3500 less calories or by exercise to lose one pound of fat. As Ivan said, you HAVE to sustain a certain amount of calories or energy each day, your body MUST be fed enough to keep the machine running, if you fall too short, it freaks out and sends a message that you are in starvation mode and the ups and downs of that are relentless. Try cutting back 200 calories each day for a few weeks from your "required" amount using the formula Ivan gave you. Now, everyone is different, so if you don't see some loss, you cut back another 200, but never more. Your body is going under a transformation if you eat right and exercise, your muscle increases and you may feel heavier for a period of time, your weight may even show an increase as you build muscle, but then you will start to see a weight loss. You just can't give up, you have to keep going. Try NOT looking at the scale for a month, if at all. Scales are deceitful as they cannot give you accurate data, our body fluids change, our muscle increases, you are better to use a tape measure than any tool out there besides a body fat percentage tool. I would suggest seeing what your fat % is at and then as you lose you will know how much was fat vs. muscle. If you show a weight loss and your fat % lowered you lost mainly fat, if you show a gain, but your fat% went down, you lost fat and gained yourself some muscle - and if you see a weight loss but your fat % went up or stayed the same, you may have lost some muscle, something you don't want to compromise, so it is a good tool for monitoring your progress, especially when you aren't sure what is going on! :) Good luck to you and hang in there, things will start happening if you stick to it!-------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. I appreciate the help according to the ratio that you gave me I should consume 3900 calories are you sure that is right? How much fat should I eat, or does that matter? Untill now I had been eating 25 grams of fat and 1200 calories I now see why I am not seeing the results that I would like to see. Why should I only do the tredmill for 30 mins? I enjoy the release that it gives me could I perhaps do 30 mins of tredmill followed by 30 of cardio then 30 more tredmill? Or should I stick to only 30 of each?
Thanks again! |

first of all.. never do treadmill b4 weights.. do ur weights first and then cardio.. secondly.. u shud do treadmill for 5 min warmup.. 25-30 min on moderate pace (if ur not doing HIIT) and then 5 min cool down..
switch between treadmil and still bike every now and then.. don't let ur body get adopted to one kind of exercise... get a nutrition plan from the site.. and see what percentage they offer u of protein fat and carbs.. follow it and u'll be okay.. -------------- A life worth living is a life lived with honor and dignity..bow to no moral.. I would suggest reading some very informative information posted here on FT regarding cardio, such as the top posts in the General Exercise & Weight Training - Fitness forum. There are many reasons to be careful with cardio, I definately like my cardio, but I do it following weight lifting and I don't overdo it as I want to keep as much of my muscle as I can. Good luck and no one wants you to think cardio is "bad", but if you are concerned with your weight, you will want to take in the best of the information available and implement it to what works for you.
And, yes, 1200 calories for your weight is very, very low. I remember in an interview with Diane Sawyer she said that she maintains a 1100 calorie per day routine every day! As you lose, you will adjust those calories and it will take less to provide the energy you require, but right now your needing more. -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan.
