it kept tipping on each side and it made it really difficult to go down and it ended up rolling of my shoulder

how much weight were you using and did you notice if you were leaning to one side more than the other on the way down?

One......grab the barbell 1st with your hands.....on the rings or whereever. Now just slid under it.......you should naturally find the center, by your hands being on the bar.
two.....yoru stance is too close. three........you have weak secondaries(abbs, hams, lower back, etc.) four...too much weight for a beginer. -------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

the weight was 185. another problem i have is the rack is either too high or too low so i cant slide right under it.-------------- -Andrew |

try to get those guys to buy a decent squat rack, if that doesn't work, you may be forced to get creative. how bout a smith cage...i normally hate the things, but i'd rather see you use that safely than to fall over with a ton of weight during a squat.

You should try spreading your hands out further.

stand on a beer crate, or find a step or two and use those to elevate yourself to the bars height.
If that fails, take advice from above. 1) Smith machine. 2) Lower weight 3) Ask someone to spot for you |

I wouldn't stand on anything, that and accident waiting to happen.
Simply use the lower one.......I prefere to unrack the weight with my legs, and not on my tippy toes like I see some people do. Just get under the bar, center your self....drive up, walk back and squat. If anything it will help you have a stronger lower back..........or you can do a front squat of zechular squat, since its about chest level. -------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |
