Hi,
I was just wondering if anybody has had an inguinal hernia repaired, and if so are u doing weight training.
I have been training for about 6 months and was just wondering if anybody has had any problems with that area.

thanks

Welcome to freetrainers1

I have been waiting to see if someone with a similar situation answered you, apparently not.

I have had clients in the past with hiatal hernias who don't seem to have a problem with weight lifting, but they were not lifting extremely heavy weights either.

I guess i would recommend following your doctor's orders on any restrictions to exercise and be very gradual with any increase in weight lifted or intensity. I think it is the internal pressurization that occurs when you sort of tighten your abs and hold in your breath during heavy lifts that can cause problems with hernias.

thankyou for your response. I have been gradual increasing the weight and intensity and trying to control my breathing.I also wear a hernia aid. The Dr has fondle my balls and found no problem. Im just trying to fined out if the discomfort is normal, as information is hard to come by on this matter. thanks again

repaired...well currently I have one...it's not bad and doesn't cause any discomfort. Dr said as long as it doesn't bother me then they're not worried about it. Mines in my groin and is just a lump under the skin.

After the surgery though from what I've read you need to take a few weeks off. The mesh shouldn't tear and the biggest concern is the small incision. If the incision is gone then you should be good. If there is any discomfort beyond a strained muscle feeling then you need to get back into the Dr and let them know.

I'm considering getting mine fixed just cause I don't want it to be a problem when I am in better shape. However not crazy about taking a few weeks off right now.

hi... I had the op 2 years ago and mine started just like yours. The more weights i did the more it teared, i ended up with a 5 inch scar and a whole lot of mesh. The Dr said iam playing with fire, just hope i dont get burnt.
