Hey guys. My name is Johnny and im 22 years old and live in Ontario. I've been heavy all of my life so im used to it. 4 years ago i did Atkins and lost 80lbs bringing me to 150lbs.. But i didnt realize that just because im finally thin i can eat whatever so i gained all my weight back. So I finally decided im ready to try again.. As much as i loathe atkins, its the only diet that works for me..

Just wanted to say Hey to you all and i think this is a fantastic website! ;)

Hey Johnny - the biggest problem with Atkins is what happened to you. Browse the site and you'll find plenty of inspiration in how to get it off and keep it off.

The problem with Atkins is, it doesn't teach you how to change to a healthy life style. A diet of healthy non processed foods with regular exercise will keep you at maintainance. You will not reduce at the speed of Atkins but will be successfull overall.

A little discipline at the table and at the gym might help reduce that belly!

i know atkins is bad for you and i wish i could do alternative methods to loose weight.. But i really dont know how. I was watching an infomercial on these tapes called Power 90... it came with these elastic bands and a low fat eating plan... But i didnt see any results.. I get discouraged quickly.. Im not usually the kind of person who asks for help but i am today... Im sick of eggs, meat and cheese... I was reading some of the other posts on atkins and i read a few people ask for a "buddy".. Maybe somone can help me out in the gym department, cause i have no idea what exercises i should be doing. my email addy is lunchbox_the_wop@hotmail.com if anyone wants to help-or help me on here... I dunno. im just ready for a change .

Oh and one other thing... i filled out the nutrition plan and it says i should be eating 2700 calories a day. That has to be wrong.. i was thinking more like 1000-1200 MAX... And it said to eat 400g+ carbs... thats crazy-how can you eat that many carbs and calories and loose weight... ? this is confusing.

The cal intake is always high...you'll want to shoot for 10-15 cal per pound of body weight(depending on your activity level)...don't go for the lowest number of cal right out of the gate...then you have no where to go when you hit that plateu...and you will...we all do...think of this as a lifestyle change...and not a diet...and it's easier to accept that you won't lose all of the weight you want by next week....so just disregard what the nutrition plan told you...but a thousand cal a day...no good...your body is smarter than you..it will think you're starving and store everything you put in your mouth as fat. It's confusing...but you'll get it soon enough:)

As you all may already know im the king of atkins. But I've been reading this site everyday and i think im now ready to change. So on December 4th, i will start something new. I will start a healthy LIFESTYLE not a diet! I will eat or try to eat Proteins, carbs and fats-all in moderation.I will stick with fruits for breakfast, and all my high carbby foods for breakfast and lunch. I will do cardio 3 days a week for 45 minutes. I will TRY and eat 4-5 small meals a day. As for weight training, i not 100% but stick with some handheld weights and situps. So hopefully im on track. I bought groceries which i think are ok ( some of which were on bb1fit's G-List). wish me luck.. its going to be extremly hard for me to put CARBS in my mouth... and even harder to eat more than once a day... thanks again all.

Just one word of advice litho, be patient. You are not going to drop wt like you do on Atkins, but what you do lose, will stay off! Make this a longgg term commitment

lithosphere, Dont get discouraged in a month.. thats too short of a time, specially if your only weighing urself..
ur going to build muscle which is heavier than fat so ur weight might actually go up a bit first, thats what happened to me, i went up 5 pounds got really discouraged but got back on track, i lost those 5lbs and stayed at my initial weight for 2 months!! that didnt mean i wasnt losing fat, i was! the girls noticed! haha i moved to montreal for university, and just today i was on a webcam conference call with my mom who hasnt seen me in 3 months, she was about to fly half way across the world to feed me, she even thought i was on cocaine!!! and thats 3 months after my workouts started, im only down 4 lbs from my initial weight.. i lost alot of fat and gained muscle.. so dont trust the scale, its not acurate and you Will be dissapointed. ur weight also has alot of factors, such as how much water you drank or sweat (1L of water weighs 1 KG) and if you've been to the bathroom that morning and what youve eaten before your workout, and if uve been drinking (i weighed my self after a night of drinking and found that i was 3Kg lighter.. it was just lack of water)its not because the food isnt in your stomach anymore that its not still in ur body. i find it best to weight myself in the morning after my ritual to minimise the variables..
I suggest u use a mesoring tape and dont just measure your gut, measure everything kuz the gut is usually the last place fat goes away from (depending of course of ethnicity). to tell u the truth i wish i had shed my fat faster, but its not gonna happen, so ive put weight loss as a long term goal and my health as a short term goal. Ok im only 10-15lbs over my desired weight but ive had this belly all my life, im only 20.. now's the time i have to get into goood physical condition.
Best of luck, alot of people have done it, and the both of us can aswell.. dont despair.

Also, you've chosen a bad month! December is tyically a tought time to loose and I'm usually happy just to maintain! Why not give this a go until at least the end of February. At that time, re-access and go at it for another 8 weeks. This is not a fad diet, it is a way to teach yourself how to eat properly and live a healthy lifestyle. It'll take that long just to adjust to the new lifestyle and adapt some good eating/workout habits. Nothing happens overnight!!

If you like it try and add some cottage cheese or yogurt later in the evening. It's better if you don't spend the night with an empty stomach.

@ziggyt-thanks for the post. I guess i will invest in a measuring tape... I'll take measurements every 2 weeks then instead of weighing myself!

@flyonthewall-I guess december is a bad month... I cant say no to triple chocolate cheese cake ( which i will only have a sliver-instead of 2 slices) Will give it till the end of January and if i see no results, Ill post what im doing and maybe someone will see my error! thanks!

As for Day 1, it was HARD... this is what i ate

7:00am-
2egg white and 1 piece of brown bread with a few slices of tomatoes.

9:00am- Had a coffee with 3 milk no surgar

11:00am- had a cesar salad ( no crutons), low fat dressing and an orange juice and bottle of water.

1:00pm-had a glass of water

4:00pm-had 2 pieces of chicken breast with lemon

5:00pm-treadmil for 45 min

havent eaten anything since that. its currently 6:30pm-i plan on having more water.

that was my day!
