Hi Guys
New here and stumbled across it looking for a new routine for a fresh start after a short (3 week break). These forums seem to have a lot of good info with some good moderators. I am 6?1 and managed to get from 150 to 180 over the course of a year and change and am really happy so far with the results. A combination of lifting heavier, protein shakes, and better diet is what got me there. I do three days of weights and three days of cardio (which is usually a run) I am noticing that although I am making good gains in muscle mass I am starting to gain a bit of a belly and I really don?t want to let that get out of control - the skinny guy with pot-belly is not a look I am after ? its all about proportions I guess. Everything you read for the skinny guys say eat, eat, eat, and eat. I eat three good meals a day, with yogurt, fruit, and nut snacks in between?I probably delve into the sweets a little more than I should but it is not out-of-control. Should I be looking to back off on the carbs, the carb protein ratio, total calories from both? Doing more cardio, lift lighter, lift heavier, life more intensity? How do I take ten pounds from my gut and add it as muscle?I am sort of at that point I think where I need to fine tune a bit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Sean

Can't help you with the gaining muscle mass through lifting thing. But for nutrition, check out the WSSC diet. I've seen a lot of people on here use it for weight loss and for weight gain (depending on how you configure it) and have been very successful. Good luck and contrats on the 30 lb weight gain. That's awesome!

"I eat three good meals a day"

Can you define this better? About six months ago I thought I was eating real well, too... then started tracking EVERYTHING I ate... big surprise what I was consuming... I adjusted, dropped a whack of things from my diet or cut back considerabley and lost about 20 pounds in a few months.

The only way you're going to lose weight is to create a caloric deficit. It sounds like to me that you've been on a non-stop mass cycle for a year now. If you start cutting your calories and lifting for more reps with lighter weights, you should start seeing a difference. What I've found is that you can't really have your cake and eat it to with working out. You either diet(eat more ) and lift(heavier) to gain muscle, or you cut calories, stay on the cardio, and lift in a higher rep range to shed the fat and get the cuts you want. Usually you have to pick one or the other. I've been on my cut cycle for about 7 weeks now, and it's just about time to take a break, then start a mass cycle up.
