For those of you looking for a place to buy Dextrose, the guy at my local supplement store told me the best place to go was to a beer and wine store. As luck would have it Dextrose is apparently used in making wine and I was able to get a 5lb bag of it there for cheap.

Regarding the malto/dextrose/protein shake, should the amount of malto and dextrose be adjusted accordindly to allot for the carbs that are already contained in my protein shake? I currently take myoplex deluxe and i believe it contains around 20 grams of carbs. If i weigh 180 lbs and am trying to lean out using the 1/4 bodyweight dextrose/malto formula provided by bb1 how should i calculate the malto/dextrose combo considering my protein shake already contains 20 something grams of carbs?

OK...don't think I missed it and didn't understand it on another thread. I'm 163lbs, 25% BF and would like to lose BF. What is the formula to figure this.

I've just been taking a whey protien (Optimum) in the mornings after my workout.

Also would you take this same mixture on days you don't workout with morning protien shake?

Start with 1/2 of what you would on a gaining regimine, and adjust from there as needed.

Do not use simple sugars on days you don't work out. You do not want the insulin spike. No need.

The spike won't help unless you "earn it" with a hard workout before spiking. Is this what you are asking? The spike will only be beneficial if done post workout and if you keep all sugars to a minimum.

The better your insulin sensitivity, the more potent your pwo shake should be.

I'm trying to gain as much weight as I can as soon as I can as healthy as possible. I am currently 26yrs, 150pds, 6ft ( been skinny all my life ). Trying to get to 180pds by december this year and 210pds by end of next year. I will be working out( lifting weights, no cardio cuz I think that'll make me lose weight ) 3-4 times a week.

Quesiton is what kind of shakes should I be taking. I bought GNC mega whey already and plan on mixing with dextrose and maltose. Not sure how many grams of each I need to be mixing together for the kind of weight gain I want. Also anything else I should be taking, seen posts on here about creatine, do I need to be mixing this with whey as well?

Sorry if this all sounds very ignorant, but I am a complete newbie at this. Though very determined, just want to make sure I put in effort in the right manner.

if you are looking to bulk, do about half of your current bodyweight in grams of dextrose and the same for maltodextrin. use 1/4 of your bodyweight for postworkout whey protein.. mix em all together and enjoy!

if you are taking creatine.. take it separately. the best way ive heard is chugging half your whey/dextrose/malto shake right after a workout, then sipping the rest for about half an hour. take your creatine mixed with water (if its a monohydrate powder) about half way through, as your insulin should be spiked for better absorption into the muscles. check out fitbuddy for more creatine info, its been discussed plenty of times.

This sounds very interesting...

I might have already been doing this. After each workout I immediately sip on a myoplex shake mixed with EAS Phosphagen Elite (33g sugar). I am 25/m about 155 lbs.

Is that sufficient? Are there any concerns with medical issues, triggering insuline spikes?

NO Bropie, that is not right. You want to take 1/2 of your bodyweight (actually your lean body weight) in grams of simple carbs TOTAL. that means 1/4 your lean body weight in maltodextrin and 1/4 your lean bodyweight in dextrose. (1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2). then i would take about about 1/4 of my lean bodyweight in protein but some would say less and some more. but taking 1/2 your bodyweight in malto and 1/2 in dextrose is a mistake.
nothing personal by the way, just would hate for someone to read these posts and be trying to do the right stuff and not get accurate info.

If you cant find a health store that carries(or will order it for you) Malto and Dex. Try going to your local drug store and looking in the diabetic section for glucose tabs. They're pure dex.

Can anyone comment on this? I know personally i feel like crap after having a super sugar filled drinks. Are there any safety issues involved with spiking, or is the pretty much the same as say drinking a Sobe(sugar filled)?

A strategically timed insulin spike is beneficial, different than habitual spikes due to ramdom sugar/hi gi spikes that the sedentary folk do. This is what is a precursor of type 2 diabetes, not the timed spike.

Random spikes that sedentary folks do are what leads to adult onset diabetes or type 2. What I mean by that is the average joe will throughout the day eat a candy bar, drink a soda or two, have white bread and white pasta, etc. All of these will cause minor to major insulin spikes. Thus a high and subsequent crash. The crash brings on more binging.

The bodybuider "times" his spike for pwo when nutrient uptake is best. Blood sugars can drop during a stressful workout, and must be restored. A correct spike at this time is in fact beneficial.

Okay, now please excuse my lack of knowledge on this (i have been reading up on this for about an hour now), but i'm 6ft 188pounds, looking to bulk up without the fat. Now i have decided to leave "spiking" until im at a level whereby i feel i "deserve" it. So instead i just take whey and flaxseed oils as supplemens.

To the point i am posting here as im unsure how much whey to take in my shakes according to my bodyweight?

Also, I am looking to invest in creatine, but cant figure out whether i should considering i dont want to put on any fat.

Any input would be appreciated.

I have never went into a bulking phase (unless you count the past 10 yrs) but you will gain some fat when bulking. As for the whey in a PWO shake, I would guess at least 100g but others may be able to answer that better

Try CEE. I am trying to lose a few pounds but still take that. No water retention and absorbs much better than creatine mono

tiger is right...CEE is great on a cut. Helps you keep your sanity with the strength issue of reduced calories.

cheers bb1fit, do u or anyone else know of any UK sites that sell CEE products?

Also, anyone heard of the LA Muscle products...i.e. Norateen II nd V.I.P Protein? They boast that the UK's champions use it apparently, but as always, i remain wary.
