I have a decent squat rack type of workout gizmo at home with a good incline/ decline bench. It has the cable pulldown that starts to give with anything over about 150 lbs. I am able to substitute almost all the exercises my routine calls for to get a good workout. Oh yeah, the bench has a leg extension machine that is adequate as long as I use it with single leg extensions or single leg hamstring curls.

The area this set up is lacking to me is in the calf area. I am pterry much limited to single leg calf extensions and calf raises holdind barbells or dumbells. Is there a home machine that won't break the bank which will add some variety to my calf routine. I have incorporated about all the free weight leg stuff I can find on FT. Thanks for the help.

Mutt, I looked at the sight. There are several types of machines there. The one you suggested was a sit-down machine vs the stand-ups. The prices were close. Do you think this sit-down gismo is better than the stand-up? Thanks for the response.

Not better just hits the calf from a different angle....I like the seated one my self I find the other places a lot of stress on my ankles where I do not feel that with the seated...can you get to a gym for a dy and try out the machines or is there a gym equipment store near you where you can try them out?

Hey charlie - I don't know how your squat rack is set up but I rigged up a small platform using a 4X4 to stand on and used angle iron for support legs to work my calves. This was on my bench press setup and it works fine as long as I don't have a senior moment and forget to move the bench. :) Didn't have to find space for another unit either.

Mike, can't use the rig you suggest lest I clonk my head on the overhead assembly. My life seems to be a kalaidaskopic cachaphony of senior moments. It seems though that every day I live beats my previous record for staying alive. Go figure.

Mutt we do have a Sports Consignment place here in our fair city. I'll hop in the hoopty and go check it out.

Thanks guys

Why not do seated calf raises with your curling bar. Basicall put a towel down on you lap. Place the BB on your knees loaded with weight and do seated calf raises. I have been doing them and work out great. You do need a towel though to relieve presure on your quads.

Hi Charlie...I have the same situation...What I have done lately is donkey raises..I put plates or 4x4's under the end support of my bench; hop on them, make sure it is enough stretch at the bottom, then have my wife straddle me(Dang!Hurts soo good...)If the wife isn't around, I just do the donkey raises body weight only...Donkey raises seem to hit more of my calf, then anything else.....Give it a shot;plus if you can talk the wife into limited or no clothes....Heeeyy-never know....

Good Luck!
