I have a question about birth control... ... they are female hormones, and when I've been on them I'm always hungrier and gain weight, after I'm off of them I lose it again... My question is that wouldn't putting female hormones in your body make it harder to get to you body building goals? Isn't that like the opposite of what we're trying to do ? counterproductive? But I've read quite a few posts on here that bodybuilding females are taking them and that they contain an appetite suppressor?? I'm a little confused... what would happen if your taking say "the pill" and ZMA or tribulus or something?? Can someone please clear this up a little? Thank you!!!!

The pill contains 28 pills the 1st 20 or 21 contain minuit amounts of estrogens and progestins taken daily; th elast 7 pills are hormon free. Teh pill tricks the hypothalamic-pituitary axis and "lulls it to sleep" because the relitivly constant blood levels or ovarian hormones make it apear the women is pregnant.( estrogen and progesterone are produced during pregnancy) THis is way you don'thave a "period " while your pregnant. Ovarian foliculs do not devolope and ovulation ceases.

also, just a therory, you may gain weight, cause your body "thinks" its pregnant. Its wants more calories, and fat to protect, and feed the baby, so this may be why you gain a lil weight even though your not really pregnant.
As for combining drugs, I would ask a doctor, cause you may take somthing that adversly effects the pill,patch wahtever you take.

The pill does cause an increase in appetite, and if you eat more because of this, you will gain weight. It is the same with all b/c. Example, my sister in law started the shot. I gained weight on the shot because it caused a bad reaction in my system, whereas she gained weight because she followed the increased appetite and ate constantly. 3 bowls of cereal at one time, 5 yogurts at a time, it was insane. She gain about 20lbs in 3 months. If you continue to watch what you eat and exersize while taking bith control, you should be ok unless your body has a adverse reaction like mine did.

I got some hormonal probs for the moment and even though I already have one contraceptive method, my doc has also given me the pills. That means that I have DOUBLE dose of almost everything! :surprised:
Well, it has been almost three weeks and I haven't really felt an increase in appetite or anything. I guess it's very personal. I use my energy for activities, it calms me down and keeps me going.
The only real thing I've noticed is more water retention.... :surprised:

hmmm I agree with the water retention thing. My doctor told me that the pill could only make you gain a tiny bit of weight like 3-4 pounds. I take yasmin though which is touted as an appetite suppressor. I didn't gain any weight when I began to take it, in fact I do think it has helped suppress my appetite. They just started offering it in the states, but it's been around in Europe for a while.

Well, lots of known female fitness and BB athletes have succeeded in spite of being on some kind of contraceptive method, so that's a living proof of that you can do whatever you want when you work hard enough and just listen to your body! :)
