I think I just need to vent. I've been working out for over two years, eating healthy (balanced meals, 5 x's/day), don't drink, smoke......blah blah and couldn't figure out why no changes were happening. I keep hearing about people changing their shape in 6 weeks. Well..........sure enough, go to the Doctor's for my 6 month blood work and turns out my thyroid is VERY low. I've been on thyroid pills since '92, but the bloodwork has always come out normal! Wah!!!! The Doctor said he couldn't believe with my numbers, that I even kept the extra weight off!!! I guess that's all I've been doing for 2 years is maintaining!!!! Its soooooo discouraging!!!!

That shouldn't be discouraging at all! Look at all you did, all that you maintained, even with your thyroid working against you. Now, with that better under control, you're fitness is probably going to go through the roof!
Keep those numbers up, keep your chin up, and keep us posted...

I agree Sandy, you should be very encouraged to know that you have avoided a set back like that.Without your intense effort, you may be porky the fluid pig right now!! Has your doctor suggested something to raise your thyroid activity?

Hey, Sandy, I also suffer from hypothyroidism and have been on thyroid meds since 82 you need to get your levels checked yearly when stable, I do it when I have a pap, just so I don"t forget, but if your hair feels dry, or your skin, or periods gets heavier, you get sleepier ect beaware what signs your body gives you, my wt goes not chg much my hair does, go figure as my level changes and my period flow gets heavier. But I also eat well and exercise!!!! It can cause depression so the excercise could have kept that a bay and gave you extra energy and you see great gain now that your endocrine system is working smoother and more rev'd up, and you'll have more energy!!!!

Maybe you should get a second opinion from another doctor. When went to another doctor wondering why I didn't lose weight and very, very slowly kept gaining they ran some test and said that one could be birth control and the main thing was they think that I have PCOS (ovarian cysts). You should go to another doc. to find out.

I hope you have people around you to lift you up when you really need it.
Good Luck Sweetie :))

I have to agree with Rev, what you have accomnplished is something to celebrate. I hope your doc is going to increase your dosage of the meds. I had to beg my doc to increase mine even though my blood work was always 'within normal ranges'. Whatever that means. Normal for who? He finally did enough research to find that it wouldnt hurt me and might help. It is still less than I took 15 years ago, but every little bit helps.
